Not with a stick champ.

Will be fun as hell to try, but by the time you're done breaking shit, you will have $0 in your bank account and your home and assets will all be up for auction to the lowest bidder.

Yea Im just brain storming to see where we gotta be. I dont know how far I wanna go. I figure 8s is gonna require Trans and Rear replaced along with motor work..

IMO, you have the wrong platform to chase an 8.8 but it can be done. High 8s will require close to 160mph and 160 means 1200 or so hp shifting gears. Less if you are automatic.

@biminiLX is making at or over 1100whp, trapping over 150 mph. He is still rowing gears like a man; which is incredible, although he just munched the trans and is rebuilding now.

I'd figure $15k to build a stout shortblock--unless you convert to iron block 5.4l which is less than half that price. $6-7k for the right blower and fuel system (4L KB or Whipple--I suppose a Gen3R VMP would do it too). Honestly if it were me, I'd 6r80 swap it so figure another $4k. $3k for the right set of bigs/littles. Cage, parachute (required over 150mph), safety equipment is $4-5k. Suspension bits and pieces maybe $2k.

Im sure im missing a lot, but i cant see an aluminum motor GT500 trapping 150+ or nailing consistent high 8s for any less than $30k assuming a stone stock GT500 to start with.

All correct above, bring ca$h.
Search Mark Duber/Birdoc on here, he had the fastest Mustang stick record with his 2013 for a while and it ran the times you mention.
My car is a full weight street car and I’ll likely run under 9.5 this year but I have no interest in a cage or 8s, so I’ll personally not take my car farther.

I think it's a little easier than what it sounds like in this thread, but there's no doubt it's a challenge and its going to cost you a lot more than the mods you already have. Buddy of mine broke a magnum t56 twice chasing 8's. He only got down to 9.0's before going with a bigger build.

I think we laid it out pretty damn close.

Where did we go wrong?

To me reading through the comments it sounds like he should give up before even starting. I know it's not what anybody means it just sounds that way.

Makes sense. You can make anything run an 8.8 I suppose... some cars will just take more $$ to do it than others.

Who built his Magnum trans?
On the high power builds I’ve been told I need a circulation pump to keep the input shaft lubed.
And as stated above, other platforms would be easier to run 8s.
This engine combo is stout, and power is thankfully the easy part, but any heavy manual trans package is HARD on parts.

Yea my game plan now is to upgrade the SC to a VMP Gen3r, NSR stage 1 Cams,4.10 Gears, add Cobra Jet Springs, and Go with a conservative tune till i can save up the coin for replacing rods/pistons.

Ill see where she ends up from there. Reliability is a top priority. I've been down the road of putting too much power to something and grenading motors. I'm not interested in breaking shit every time i hit the track. Ideally Id like to maintain this car as a stick.

If I get feeling froggy enough that I wanna build a full out race car, Ill just grab me a Foxbody and get to work.

I saw your other thread inquiring about blower choices. Sounded like you were pretty much settled on the VMP, and your post above cements it. Keep us posted on your 8.8 quest.

Will do! Aim High right!?

8s might not happen but it’ll be fun to chase it! Hopefully nothing breaks in the process!

I wanna say all he did was replace the broken parts so he could get back to the track. I think he broke the input shaft once and lost 4th gear the second time. He did send it out to have it built stronger for the new build, but I don't know where he sent it. Car has been down for over a year.

There's no doubt starting from a different platform is easier and a lot cheaper.
