Anyone else in the NE who stored their cars for the winter releasing them early?

I had originally planned to store my Genesis G70 Sport from late November until early April. Mainly because I really don't have to drive it in the winter, and because I have summer performance tires that don't like temps under 45. I put the insurance in "garage mode" in late November along with putting it on anti-flat spot ramps and covering it. Our winter has been so mild here in CT, and with the rest of March looking to continue to be very mild with daytime temps in the 50s pretty much throughout, I decided to take it off the ramps last Saturday. Insurance gets reinstated this Friday and I'm again driving. Can't wait.

Anybody else up here in the northeast letting their rides out to the streets early this year because of the mild weather? I could have actually done this in early February but held off just in case the weather changed enough to bring in snow. But, no snow in February (or even January). Can't believe how mild this winter has been. And, the streets here are so clean because towns haven't had to throw down any sand.

I dont consider myself in the "Northeast" as much as when I lived in CT, BUT MD is close (closer than "home" Florida)

Pulled the Cobra out this week, off to have some light body work, paintless dent removal, paint correction, and buff done on her. The weather was looking so good I figured why wait till spring?

I think I still have your front Cobra emblem CB ;)

Bob,

The hellcat is still under the cover in the garage. It has been tempting to take it out but I probably won't until April if the weather stays nice. Until the temps get higher, the car isn't even enjoyable to drive since it won't hook with temps under 60 degrees. Even though it hasn't snowed in a while there is still a lot of sand and crap on the roads. I usually like to wait until the street sweepers come out.

Playing it by ear this year!

Considering I took mine apart yesterday she won't be driven till at least mid April. Usually I wait till the sweepers are out and road crews have a chance to fix some of the pot holes created from the previous winter. Some of the holes around central MA could swallow a sub-compact car.

By saying this you do know that we’re going to get hit hard with one last storm. Better knock on some wood or something ;)

I remember when Gary Loat used to sell those on my website. ;)

I know you're only one town northwest of me, Ray, but the roads in Cheshire appear to be very clean. I do understand about the street sweeper thing. That used to be my gauge when I had my '03 Cobra. It sat impatiently in the garage until the day after the sweepers passed by my house. Of course, every town has their own sweeping schedule, so I was only willing to wait so long.

Yeah, I thought of that. There is literally nothing in the predicted weather through April, but Mother Nature can be unpredictable of course. It won't be the end of the world if we do get one snow storm, but I've got a strong feeling we'll be good.

A couple of my neighbors have their toys out already, which surprises me because we have piles of salt all over still. My rule of thumb was always after we got a good rain to wash the salt off the streets.
That has always been my own thinking, Steve. We have had some rain in January and February which has cleaned most of the streets around me. There are traces of the salt in some of the parking lots (like Costco), but in general pretty clean.

No early release until all the salt is off the roads.
I hear ya, LOL!

For sure it's been a great winter, precipitation/snow-wise and temperature wise.

Some of you mentioned salt on the roads. Here in Cheshire, CT, they stopped using sand and salt a few years ago. They switched to a chemical (liquid) applied to the roads before a snowfall or freezing rain. It works well with a coating of snow, afterwhich it must be plowed. Effective and less messy. But I've heard reports that the chemical used is very corrosive and corrodes undercarriages worse than salt. This is another reason why I don't choose to drive my Genesis during the winter. :(

Tones, do they use the same chemical on your roads? Just curious.

@CobraBob I think they use that chemical stuff mostly on the highways up here. It's hard to see on the roads when driving in the dark. It looks like the highways are wet/ice covered. Very nerve racking! lol
We still use salt but not so much sand anymore. Mostly the salt on the sides streets/roads it seems.

Nice winter so far though brother!! I wish they would be like this every year! :D

I’m with everyone else who stays parked until a good solid rain cleans the sand and garbage off the roads.

In addition to keeping the car out of the junk, I see no reason to head out in the 40s and debris covered roads on drag radials. Just a self-created accident waiting to happen.
