I miss the L. Any chance we will ever see another high performance, low slung 2WD F150 ?

Don't get me wrong fellas. I like the Raptors a lot, but how many owners are out running Baja or offroading? Most are mall crawlers. Again, a badass, good looking one at that. Most of them aren't used for their intentions, and I don't blame the owners. I wouldn't want to pay all that money and then go beat the piss out of it either.

The Lightning was a street performer, and I'd love to see what Ford could do with a 2WD F150 and the new 5.0.
Has there been any recent whispers or concepts?

Not likely, ford actually tried to bring a lightning like F150 back. The 2014 Tremor. Came with the 3.5 EcoBoost in a 2 door 2wd setup. Didn't sell well and they had to basically take 10k plus off to sell them. People got some killer deals on them.

I took one out for a test drive. I didn't like it.
It drove rougher/harsher than my current truck at that time and seemed slower as well.

I was one of those people. I loved that truck actually and it got a lot better after I installed a Livernoise tune and package on it. I would get one again, but only if they offered it in the aluminum body trucks with the 10spd and with the Coyote option. I loved the interior and the single cab configuration. It was just really nice to drive every day without it feeling too big.

They were asking ridiculous prices for the Tremors and there wasn't much difference versus a regular EcoBoost F150. The Tremors just had different aesthetics and were the only EcoBoosted short bed regular cabs. Dumbest thing I've seen Ford do in a long time. They should have just sold F150s in that configuration. If they had, I'd have one in my driveway instead of the F150 I bought instead.

Now they've got the 7.3 Godzilla gas V8. That would make a hell of a Lightning! Supposedly those blocks are so well built they're good to 1500 HP in stock form.

Rods are still FoMoCo money saver PM rods, but a new set of forged pistons and rods would get that engine ready for Mexico. I cant wait to see what these ****ing things get stuffed into.

Team Z has already squeezed one into a Foxbody. The dimensions aren't that much bigger than Windsors. Should fit in an F150 and have room for a couple turbos no problem.

What became the Raptor started with the intent of it being a G3 Lightning. Too heavy, could never get the performance desired. Went off road instead. The rest is history per se.

An actual G3 lightning? I would say nope.

Not a snowballs chance in hell, IMHO. The Raptor has been super successful while anything resembling a sport truck has been less than stellar. Even though the majority of Raptors are mall crawlers I don't think people would trade them in for a lowered sport truck.

I don't know, I see the Lightning as a unique "generation" performance truck. The Lightning (especially the supercharged Lightning) had a unique look, package and appeal. It looked sinister without needing a lot of badging and add-ons. The Lightning was strictly a street and strip performer. The Tremor is a combo on and off road performer. Different than the Lightning. Saying that, I don't believe Ford can or will ever offer another "Lightning". JMO.

Nothing will take place of a lightning IMO, but the 2014 Tremor is a great substitute. They are quick little trucks, especially tuned.
