If you really wanna feel bad, think about the McLaren Mp4-12C owners who paid over 300K for there cars 6 years ago. Selling in the low 100's now with little to no miles. If you wanna feel good do what I did and go buy one at that price..haha.

I'd love to have one of these for a DD, but as mentioned above, I'd also like to have a C5/C6 ZO6.

Unfortunately, they're just too impractical for my DD needs, and I already have a Viper I barely drive, so why bother?

If money wasn't a concern (Or space to park them), I'd have them all.

The Gt500's starting from 2007 are doing well though right?....because it's a ' Shelby' .......it's a friggin car, 99% of all cars are terrible investments period so drive them
This is how i feel, buy it cause you want to enjoy it.

Until you have to service it and it costs $20k to change the windshield wipers haha

I remember the late 80`s when the first rumors came out about this car, and I absolutely LOVED it!

In 2019 and 2020, I only remember posts in the Corvetteforum, where they laugh about how silly one could be to buy a Porsche instead of a Corvette, because it is so "overpriced" for the performance it delivers compared to a similarly fast / quick Corvette.

Then I see the prices of a 1992 Corvette ZR-1, and the prices of a 1992 Porsche Turbo, and I think to myself, who might have invested his money more cleverly... :)

Fine by me. Some day i'd like to own a 90 ZR1, an 02 z06, an 07 z06, and a 2018+ zr1.
I just need to wait long enough and theyll all be worthless enough for me to afford LOL.
LOL
I hear ya Dom. I really want a new ZR1, but those prices?!?! :confused:o_O:confused: I'm always checking cargurus.com, but still way too high for a new one or left over.

Someone local to me was selling an engine out of one of these for $3500 or around there. That would make for a unique swap.

Edit: $5500 was the price.

That's a really good deal for that engine.

I've heard of guys basically paying the cost of a car for an engine on them. It always made me want to find one, LT1 swap it and unload the LT5 but I'm not sure I could destroy a car like that for a few grand in the best case scenario.

As others have mentioned, our current technology is so far ahead of what was considered exotic back then, that all your really getting is sentimental/nostalgia value. There is very little if any performance value in most 80-90's sports/exotic cars...

We have toyota camry v6 models that could destroy cobra's from the 90's etc...

Happy to be spoiled with todays technology though!

Didnt you trade a C6Z for a trike? What is the resale on that vs the zr1?

Me, too! That's why I and many others really expected the '90s ZR1 to be a high demand collectible down the road. AND why my son-in-law bought his from a neighbor. He believed $32K was a great price, and that the value of the car would only go up. Didn't happen, though. Values dropped! Which surprised me.

I don't agree with your logic. If what you are saying is true, then '60s and early '70s Hemi Cudas, 427 Vettes, 396 Camaros, 428/351 Mustangs wouldn't be selling at the levels they are. Because so many current cars would destroy all of those, performance wise. Collectors don't buy Hemi Cudas for their "current day" performance values. They were low production high performance cars from those decades. The 1990 ZR1 was a low production high performance car from that decade. Superior to any other production car at the time. For whatever reason, it hasn't met expectations in future value. Maybe that will change some day. But for now, 30 years after it was launched, values are low. JMO.
