When they make several thousand of anything, it isn't "rare"

I swear more ZR-1's got put away thinking they would make the big loot down the road, they were wrong, LOL.

That must've been 1 hell of a car back then. I never read up on them.

375hp with a 6 speed in 1990 would've dominated
But it was still a fugly 1980's Corvette.

Corvettes (except C2) age very poorly. And 3k units in one year was probably triple of what any Ferrari model sold.

It did. Back in the day, my friend's dad bought him new 89 Corvette for his 16th birthday. His dad liked it so much he bought a 91 ZR-1 for himself. I had a chance to drive both and still remember the power and reputation of the ZR-1. It was a bad bitch.

Yea those things just don’t fair well on the market. Like said above, corvettes just never age well and they tank in value.

My son-in-law had a '91 that he bought from a neighbor. Stick in the "wrapper" with around 150 miles on the odometer. That was back about 6 years ago, before he died. He paid $32K and the next year the values started dropping. My daughter ended up selling it after he passed, and I think she got around $25K for it. Back in the day the ZR-1 with it's hand-built engine (assembled by Mercury Marine in Stillwater, OK) was so unique that for many years it was considered a collectible. Today, they can be found reasonably cheap.

I used to own a '94 Callaway Camaro (404hp) and I remember racing (short race) a ZR-1 on the street. They were definitely quick with 375hp and lighter weight. Back then, 375-400hp turned heads. LOL.

If I had an impulse to buy a 90s cool car, that would be at the top of my list. I remember when we thought 400HP was amazing, then the GTS came out with 450HP, holy shit. Now, not so much.

I would say that price is actually quite high. BAT just had one go for $11k and $15k seems to be the norm. The last year with the 405 hp are definately the one to have although those only go for $30k or so.

375 hp in 3000 lbs still is not that bad. I imagine the chassis sucks but I bet these can hold there own against plenty of modern cars.

Same thing happened with the 2000 Cobra R. One went over the block a few years ago that was still in the wrapper. I mean like no miles and all factory stickers still on it. Sold for sticker price or less I believe. What a joke.

The problem with these cars are 1. Every one of them is low mileage, garage kept, museum ready. 2. The C4 is at or near it's bottom. 3. The C4 was a very uncomfortable car and just wasn't a great car in general.

Tune/exhaust woke them up. Turbos really woke them up. I bet a twin turbo on e85 would still hold its own right now.

Agree

There are 2 on low-mileage example on my local Craigslist right now for under $20k. One apears to be "not running"? but looks extremely clean.

There was a story going around back then of a guy that sold his allocation for a hundred grand. This owner to be still had to pay for car, plus the hundred, so he was in deep.
