Do you happen to have a part number for the short block you just got?

I do. Took a pic from the shipping crate box.

Glad to help !

Question guys: Will I need to do any kind of break in period in the motor? I mean its a brand new SB, but factory and not aftermarket so i’m a little confused if there is any need for things like run break-in or conventional oil for 50 miles, change and than oil change and 500 or 1000 than switch to full synthetic if desired. That what MMR and other aftermarket builders suggest.
Do i need that with brand new factory block?

I will be taking it easy because of the nee RXT/flywheel set up goin at the same time, just want to check if i need to have extra consideration for the motor.

Yes for sure there are break in procedures for a newly built motor. Proper break in oils for one before getting to ur final grade of oil to be used. Lot more than that tho....

Glad to help !

Thanks for replies! Yeah will be breaking it in, also the clutch.

Do you guys think i’ll hit 750/620 area on my paxton at wastegated 12 psi with 3.33 pulley?

Before that i was on 10 psi wastegated and made 675/590 on E85.

Planning on running E85 again and going to put in 12 psi spring in the wastegate. I am hoping for 750 whp and around 620-630 tq.

You should post what steps you take if you can please. Which oil & miles etc. I have no idea either & placed the order on the block. Gen 2 SB, & gen 2 heads with gen 1 chains, cams, & sprokets & gen 2 harmonic balancer right?

Hmmm .... I don’t know anything about balancer.
Who said I would need Gen 2 Harmonic balancer?

Personally i'd do an ATI balancer. Then TSS crank sprocket and opg's. Have peace of mind. Would get a new oil pump housing if yours has any scaring.

Gen2 heads basically are cast boss heads, so they flow better than gen 1 heads. also thing they have 1mm larger exhaust valves if memory serves. Gen1 heads will work on gen2 shortblock. if you use gen2 heads, you have to use the newer head gaskets as the oil holes are bigger. (would assume you would be using the newer gaskets anyway but just in case). As long as you use all your factory cams and timing gear (minus the main tensioners, grab boss ones). Wouldnt hurt to grab new chains, and may as well upgrade the secondary ones while your in there.

Its a little money, but goes a long way in reliability. I ran for years on my gen1 shortblock at over 800 wheel (uncorrected) with opg's and ati balancer. MT82 shifting above 7500rpm allllll the time... thing never skipped a beat in 57k miles. thats when i blew up my 4th mt82 and decided to put a th400 in... then i figured i didnt have the willpower to not turn it up so i went ahead and built a shortblock.

Im gonna build it as I go. My gen 1 still running strong. Gonna just use gen 2 sb & heads, buy new chains along with billet secondaries, & l & m gen 1 small blower cams. Ati balancer huh? Ill look into it. Only reason I brought that part up is because on gen 1 part # it has a pulley, gen 2 has diff part # & calls it balancer. So figured with gen 2 sb goes the proper palancet from gen 2 correct?

I was just confused by the part #, description, & price of both on Tasca. For a gen 1 it shows BR3Z-6312-A Crankshaft Pulley @ $72.36. For a gen 2 it shows FR3Z-6312-A Vibration Damper @ $111.60. Seems different just by price & description. I tried calling Tasca & emailing, but no go from either tries.

If you have gen 2 heads then your mostly there. If your going to push it at all grab valve springs (like 400), and aftermarket secondary chains (roughly double price of stock's and worth peace if mind).

Ya ati balancer will balance out any other harmonics and keep engine smooth. Easier to oull as well. Also can get an overdrive inner pulley that would allow you to run a bigger pulley up top for more belt wrap making less slip on 6 rib systems. Unless your belt goes on main serpentine, then its normal..

I thought gen 2 heads came with boss springs & valves. I was counting on them as part of the price of heads.
