to be fair, most people don't bother trying.
Generally if you have a 900 whp car, you go to the track on a tire that will work. I'm still somewhat confused by why they'd do all this to get 900 hp then run it on a barely adequate tire?
I'll be honest, I'm sure we could take our Redeye out and run an easy 9.7 (pulley/e85 only) on an R888, but why?
No interest in the 'world record for fastest sticky non drag tire'...

Because they’re half retarded.

Show us how it's done on R888R , easier said then done . It all dependence how you look at it . Not everyone is interested in turning a car into a straight line car only by installing drag rims with drag radials . Heavy car on drag rims and big drag radial/slicks has the handling / characteristics of a tractor on the street . It becomes a 1 trick pony with not much fun besides going fast in straight line . I'll take a car on R888R all day long vs a car on drag wheel setup . Been there done that plenty times over the last 20 years .

They don’t want to turn a car into a straight line only car.....they then only show videos of them racing in a straight line.

a real drag radial isn’t bad for street driving. If these people were more concerned about racing on a track with turns then where are those videos?

I live 15 minutes from a road course and 40 minutes from a drag strip . I run my cars at both places plenty times

Wow yea ,What a bunch of idiots for not doing what most guys done . Lets slap a set of drag rims / tires and have another floating tank on the street that can't turn or brake for shit

Half retarder ? I'd say your comment is more then half retarded . it's bad ass all around car that can run 9.7 on R888R tires.

If its not running the same r888 up front then the balance is all messed up, especially on a car like the GT500.
In that case a 20" radial still makes way more sense to me.

Someone told me there's some talk on FB that they didn't run a drag tire in an effort to keep the trans from slipping, and that makes sense to me at least.
Theres also a supposed quote from the owner that they plan to push it to 1000 hp and try to run 8s, which sounds like his goal is indeed to go in a straight line...

I haven't been paying attention to the most recent runs, but have they been launching at max RPM? If they have, I don't see any significant decrease in times until they get the TCM unlocked.

They are 60ing similar to stock cars with stock rubber, unless they lighten the cars or the rotational mass (or I guess drop tire size for a greater torque multiplication), I can't imagine they will be going that much quicker.

I don't believe so. IIRC a few of them were saying there's trans issues when they raise the launch past the stock limiter.

What’s the point of spending all that money on a drag pack and slicks when the car is only capable of 1.5 60’....for now.

I honestly dont see anything wrong with R888R, the calvo & nth moto vipers (1800+hp vipers roll around in that tire).
R888R is the tire of choice for high HP vipers, so not sure why its getting hate for 900hp GT500. Maybe the down force in the viper is keeping it planted?

it's just the haters that are looking for something new to downplay the car

If stock drivetrain gt500s get in the 8s with boltons, tuned and whatnot.

Sold. I'm in.

Say “no drag radial” and “on hard sidewall tire” to down play the car and make it sound more impressive, meanwhile car is on a tire with the friction coefficient / traction comparable to that of of 555R / NT05R drag radials.

Say “Not everyone is interested in turning a car into a straight line car only by installing drag rims with drag radials”, meanwhile it only takes 10min to switch wheels/tires before going to drag-strip and said car has been doing nothing racing in a straight line and going to the drag strip.

Gold right there, fellas!

the downforce helps but it’s mostly the motec system and it’s ability to balance traction and boost by gear. I’m sure there is much much more to it but that’s also wheee those higher hp gt350 builds from fathousefab see success as well.

those cars have motec traction control/boost by gear, most of the time you see them roll racing with street tires

but I agree with you and I run r888 on the street, drive to the track, and drive home. I don’t consider my car a straight line car because I want to see what it does in the 1/4

Any car that can load up with pump/e85, click off a 9 on street tires, and drive home is pretty damn impressive to me. I’ve only seen a couple zr1’s and gtr’s actually do this at the track
