state ref/smog in CAli

hows it going all. I live in LA i have 2004 termi. never got a ticket i have owned my car for almost 10 years it is modified and will not pass went today for a smog and my car came back with a state reff refferal. I was randomly selected somehow they said my car wat tagged which i did not now and now i have to go and get a state reff before i can do a smog. does anyone know how to fix or go around this. please let me know

As far as i know there is not a work around currently. People have had to go back to stock.

no you cannot avoid it once you are tagged. you have to go to the ref. Your intake MUST be stock or have CARB sticker. you must have all cats installed no x or h pipe. blower must be stock or CARB sticker. monitors must be "set" aka no battery reset, and must have 200 miles logged driving.

200 miles logged for what? In order to have the monitors set? No. You can simply do fords drive cycle and have them set relatively quick.

Sometimes that works sometimes it doesnt. The older cars seem to have a harder time setting them.

Time to register your car in a county that has no smog. If you have AAA, go to their DMV, tell em you want to change your address and pay your registration. Put in an address like a BOX you buy at fedex or something in a smog free county and you're done. I've done this for years. Or just use the address of the mailbox place with some apartment number. Then when it's time to smog your car just go a few months before its due and tell em you lost your paper and they can bring it up and you can still pay it and get a sticker. No need to make it harder than it is and deal with that crap.

This works. It's been a few years since ive done it, but ive had success with it about 5 times.
