I hear what your saying, and to each their own... I cant make a payment on a car unless I REALLY enjoy it. And if I do really enjoy it, I want to drive it all the time. I agree on the not buying what you shouldn’t (in principle) however. I have usually done just that my whole life though. Ive enjoyed alot of nice things, but I have usually shot first and aimed later. I am now 51 yrs old and trying to change that. With age should come wisdom I know...I should do more of what I need to do, and less of what I want to do, but what the heck? I have never regretted not getting something I desired even though thats really short sighted living most would say.
We only go around once on this earth however!

I can go buy w/e right now. But it's a recipe for disaster having 2 Shelby payments. Like my daddy said, "just cause you can, doesn't mean you should." LOL

I have a 97 f150 my granddad left me so I drive that sometimes just to feel the opposite haha

To the DD tropic,
I (this is just me), enjoy taking a break from 700hp for a week or two and than getting into it. Feels like a whole new feeling and car. I think that's what keeps me motivated to make my next car payment every month. Thats just me though

And damn some of you all do drive your cars, 70k miles?? lol good on you not bashing

Just wondering how many of us are out here dailying Shelby’s?

anyone run into some issues unique to using the car daily as opposed to a weekend toy?

To this day I’m beyond impressed with the lack of issues I’ve had, driving rain or shine in south Florida’s murderously hot weather.
I have a 2014 GT500 with 160k from daily driving and its on the second engine. First engine dropped an intake valve at 90k. The second Engine has just snapped the second valve spring (on different cylinders).

Owned a 09 Shelby traded for the above '14 with 120k and no issues.
Thinking about the 2020. I'm not sure I like the automatic with the selector knob, and yeah I know how much faster the 0-60- 100 is, but in driving two Shelby's near 300k the full throttle starts arent worth it. Where these cars shine to me is the torque the engine has left above 100.

I would almost be thrilled if my engine popped at 90k- I have til 2022 and 124,000 miles for my esp warranty

I'm assuming that the '14 was almost entirely stock since they covered it? Maybe i need to stick with my 5.4

Since I have already done the basic mods, I hope and pray she holds up. I probably wasted the money for the esp! I have never really counted on that (the warranty) however, and man it runs so strong now for sure! By far the most fun Ive had in a car, and mine are always daily drivers. I have had several cars at various stages of performance from built, stock, and all in between. The more I do to it, the more I love the Gt500. Now having said all of that...I really hope to get a solid 60-80,000 miles at least out of it. If it did pop, I would go ahead and break the bank to do a full build to go for 1,000+ whp. I should have all of the supporting chassis mods already in place to handle that level of power before then. Its always a risk/reward game with modding so I drive and enjoy them all I can. Insatiable enthusiast/nut forever!

speaking of, are you running watts link and all that? I do want to add one for stability- my tech said it wouldn’t affect warranty too.

I havent started the chassis mods yet. Just bolt on eng mods and MGW gen 2 shifter. Next is the 4.10 rear gears, then Ill start suspension upgrades. Suspension mods would not typically affect your unrelated items like: engine, trans, etc., (as long as they are not modded) but when you tune/flash the computer is when you are gambling and probably canceling it. At least thats what my local ford service manager tells me. He is a friend of mine though. So take my advice as a grain of salt. Yeah I hear the watts link (when properly adjusted) does wonders for our solid axle rides.

This bothers me. Are these engines really that fragile? IMHO, with proper maintenance, the engine should last as long as any other Ford engine. Makes me think I should pull the engine at 50K miles and have it built.

I really don’t think so Steve. That’s a ton of miles and I haven’t heard much valvetrain issues on our cars, so his failures are not common IMO.
With correct maintenance I don’t see any issues with regular use.
I also can’t see putting that many miles on my Shelby, I have the Hellcat for that :) Friendly jab to the Mopar lovers, having a beater DD Hellcat.

Just so you know this car was maintained and serviced by a Ford SVT Mechanic once every 4 weeks. Neither engine had a single 0-60 full-throttle start. I got that out of my system quickly with my 09 needing new rear tires in 3 weeks. Ford corporate did a very in-depth review of my maintain records including the "black box" before the warranty on the first engine was granted, which was a long block replacement.

Yikes Rus! That's very disappointing to hear :/

I know the 5.8 has larger displacement and the aluminum block, but other than that I thought they were pretty identical to the 5.4.

I thought the heads were exactly the same... are they different on the '13 - '14?

I wonder if it's larger blower pushing more boost?

Sorry to hear you had TWO failures :(

13-14 heads are different, they have extra coolant passage around exhaust ports for additional cooling.

13-14 TVS pushes more boost than older M122
