The Husky stuff looks decent at HD. Anyone have any input on them?

I picked up one in 2018.

Seems well built. No issues so far with anything.
Funny enough, both Home Depots next to me wanted $699 for the tool box but the one in unincorporated area of the county was selling it for $599. So, I went there.

Thanks, I need to replace my old ass Craftsman that's way to small for all my crap. Did you pick it up, or have it delivered?

Picked it up. Came in two boxes, and they had a forklift load it into the bed on the truck. Unloading was a PITA but there wasn't much install to it.

Craftsman is quickly coming back to the states. Sears had NO production everything craftsman had was licensed product from overseas suppliers.

Stanley just started building a large facility in Dallas, TX for capacity on craftsman hand tools. Stanley owns PROTO, FACOM, and MAC so expect good quality handtools as they get more made in the states.

Assembled here, and not as nice as the HF box.

According to the article, they use US steel rolls, stamp and poweder coat all in house. At least, as of 2018.

I used to be all for craftsman, but I feel like the quality just hasn't been there since Sears sold them. Been slowly switching everything over to Milwaukee, but to each his own.
Still have all my Snap On, Matco tools and Dewalt power tools. I certainly remember Sear's heady days with Made in USA Craftsman hand tools. If Stanley's new tool factory brings that back, Craftsman is back on the list.

I looked at them but really didn't like it. Harbor Freight has superior toolboxes

They are a well constructed box, no doubt. Plans changed for me when I talked to my new supervisor. Going to be doing mostly electronic installation, no heavy repair so I need a box to keep (store) my non-used tools in. Ive got a line on a Matco Deluxe cart that will store all my soon to be "daily use" tools. Since the main box wont be accessed near as often as my cart, I dont need heavy duty. USA craftsman fits the bill.

I suppose in time I might save for a used Snap-On KRL or Matco 4 series, but Ive got nothing against the Series 2 US Generals.

For a home garage, they are good for the money. Depending on how much space you have in your garage, they have a sweet Tool Cabinet/Hutch/Locker combo:

Husky Heavy-Duty 80 in. W 10-Drawer, Deep Combination Tool Chest and Rolling Cabinet Set in Matte Black (3-Piece)-HOTC8010BB1S - The Home Depot

Haha, Ill be going through some new screen names. If Im not a Lexus tech anymore I think its time for a new one. I may eventually pick up another Pro box, though It'll be a used box. Snap On new box prices are kind of ridiculous, even if you have a Snap On dealer that can give a decent discount on em! Ill give Matco a look too.

I got a giant ass husky box I got from a scratch and dent/overstock place and it’s pretty nice. Even the drawers with multiple heavy tools seem to move just fine. I was looking at HF before I stumbled on this one

I need a box fairly soon. I want a bench top one.

Wife sent me a picture from one at costco the other day, it looked decent but I need to do some research before I spend ~$1000 for one.

I bought my snap on box for half price whilst attending UTI and I still have it. Buying new off the truck is ****ing ridiculously over priced! Got a couple friends who bought a couple snap on and Matco boxes secondhand off CL for like 80% off the truck prices. I think one friend bought his box for like $1200-1500 and the truck retail price was like $8k!

My Craftsman box has been great. I cross shopped between HF's US General, Craftsman and Husky. The Craftsman was the cheapest of the bunch. I got a $50 gift card to Lowes and ended up using it on the Craftsman box set(top/bottom combo).

I wanted the matching Craftsman side cart but they dont make one that had the configuration shown in the photo below(Husky and HF make them but only Husky makes it in 36" width which is what i needed).

Sorry my garage is a mess....shutters fell off during a storm, the mickey mouse blanket is covering my wife's Edge Sport wheels during winter and the little tikes car was in for some maintenance on one of its wheels(squeaky). Its usually not that busy in there.

Thanks for the heads up on your Husky 36" tool cart you bought. I just ordered mine from Amazon. Just what I need for detailing and maintaining my Genesis G-70. ;)

When I was working PT at Lowes, word was Stanley was going to bring the MFG back to the US.
I hope this is so!!

Some of you guys should check out strictlytoolboxes.com if you want to go a bit up market from hardware store / HF branded toolboxes but not take out a mortgage for a tool truck box.

I looked around a bit for a second hand snap on but people still wanted 3+ grand for used boxes and none fit what I was really looking for. I did a lot of reading on garage journal and found a lot of people were buying tool chests from Montezuma or Extreme Tools and very happy with both. They all order through strictlytoolboxes and I noted a lot of good feedback for that company.

STB had a black friday sale on exactly what I wanted, a 72" x 30 " Deep chest with a work top. This is their in house branded chest which is made by extreme tools, at the time it was 900 dollars cheaper than the Extreme Tools branded box (believe its 600 less now).

Strictly Toolboxes 72" 18 Drawer Tool Cabinet

I will say I'm very happy with the end product, it feels really thick and well made, the drawers slide nice, the powder coating looks good. Fedex freight screwed me over and instead of putting it on a truck to PA, sent it to GA instead. STB refunded me another 200 dollars since FedEx is supposed to guarantee the delivery date for STB and they clearly failed to do that. STB followed up to make sure I was happy with the product, they have very good customer service and follow up. Anytime I called they answered right away.

It came in a big wooden crate and very well packed, the only way this was getting damaged in transit is if FedEx dropped it off the back of the truck (which I could see them doing, incompetent fools!)

One word of advice.....when building it put all the screws in first, then and only then will you tighten them all up. While it looks great the holes are not exactly centered. Also the nut certs needed to be knocked into place in two places. A dead blow and one good whack and they were good.

Thanks for those tips, Kevin. I thought I read on Amazon that all of the screws are pre-installed. Regardless, I make sure that all of the screws are in place before tightening. If any of the holes are off center, I'll start them all with enough wiggle room to get them started, and then tighten.

lol, my dad did the opposite of your advice on a harbor freight cart once. Asked me to look at it and I was "lmao, wth did you do to this poor cart?". Looked like Pablo Picasso put it together haha.

Dude, thanks for the heads up! That's a MONSTER value for toolboxes. 72"x THIRTY inches deep? I dont think you can even find a used Snap/Matco box at 46" for that price let alone 72". Will be looking at them in the future.

Im guessing made overseas?

They are, but it seems the companies who sell these products (Montezuma, Lista, Extreme tools) on STB keep good quality control and aren't passing off a shoddy product. The guys from STB said they like'd like the boxes they sell to be a show piece of your garage.

I've been trying to buy upper-end tools and such for the garage that my dad and I are putting together, but I don't make new snap-on tool chest money haha, I think a chest like this would have been a minimum of 6 grand.

One thing I'll note is since these don't have drawer locks but use detents for closing/opening, the drawers are a bit stiff when new and unloaded. Every review I've read has said when you put some weight in there and use them, they'll start to loosen up a bit.

Now THAT'S a serious tool box. It does not exceptionally well made. A bit above my need, LOL, but anybody with a set of exception tools would probably be elated to have it.

my goal is to minimize how often any of my cars or my family's cars have to go to a shop for work. At some point I'll be getting a tire mounter + balancer and the real trick will be getting a setup to do alignments and learn how to do that. I have some experience with tire machines but I've never done alignments before.

I just have a huge distrust of using shops for anything, which is why when I do find one that is reliable, I'm willing to travel. Which is why my body shop guy is 3+ hours away in Maryland
