2 day event, 61 miles away...cheap hotel or drive home just to sleep so you can drive back to the event. Without dipping into the legit roach infested places, I'm seeing $80 with all taxes and fees.

Before someone asks, the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

I would stay in hotel if you can get a decent one for the cost you listed. I don't mind staying in hotels provided they are clean. Thats not too far but after a long event you are tired and don't feel like driving. The time and fuel savings are worth it to me.

Without question, stay the night, at the price point you're expecting. You'll save the miles and won't have to deal with traffic going back and forth. A friend of mine is going that same weekend. He races, but isn't racing in this one.

It would all have to do with how bad I thought traffic would be, but then again, you'll have traffic to your hotel also. Tough call.

Do you drink? If so, stay. If not, drive home.

I've never been to the Daytona 24, but I have been at Petit LeMans for the past 10 years. The race is one thing, the comradery amongst friends is the best part. We stay at the track for the whole event from practice to race end. The best bet is to get an RV, if that's not an option and Daytona allows it, get a tent and sleep at the track.

Depends how close you can stay to the event. Walking distance? I'd hotel it. If you're driving a few miles anyways, and traffic in the 61 miles is minimal, I'd probably sleep at home.

If you can’t afford the hotel, can’t afford the event either.

Hahahaha, please!

Everyone spends their money differently. It's not about the ability to being able to spend the $80, it's the question of personal worth...is it worth it?

I'm flying to Chicago the following weekend for a concert, and saying in a $22 a night youth hostel. I enjoy budget travel. I've been to like 30 countries and slept in countless cheap accommodations. I could afford the Ritz, but 10 days in Madrid including airfare and hostel for about $800 is more worth it to me than staying in a $150 a night hotel.

I hear you. Didn’t mean to offend. But you got to look at cost vs risk. $80 bucks is not worth risking your safety. It just isn’t. So if you have to question spending the $80 on a hotel, you might as well re-think the trip.

get you a hotel and really enjoy the trip.

I say it’s one night.

Take a van. Party till you pass out at the track.

5gallon bucket and some trash bags work well for the morning shit.

Thread doesn’t specify but are you taking a daily or a nice car? If it was me I couldn’t sleep knowing my cobra is in some random parking garage/lot. Otherwise if it’s the beater, I’d stay.
