So glad I saw this car in person two years ago at the Woodward dream cruise and then the next day at Ford HQ.

very cool to see the camera mounts, tape on the tach for McQueen to shift, holes in the trunk for smoke, etc

Actually landed right where I had seen it predicted to be.

An amazing piece of automotive / Hollywood history.

Wonder where its off to. Ever to be seen again? Or into a private collection, and never to be seen again???

I know someone who went there with hopes of a chance with a $1M budget. His hopes and dreams were shattered in less than .8 seconds

Saw it the same year. Very cool. I hope they leave it as is.

I was there today. it really is a beater, rusted quarter, lacking paint in many places but it is history. They kept it in a glass case after the sale. Pretty cool no matter how you look at it.

He should have kept it in the family, his dad wouldn’t sell it. I had a feeling when he was parading it around this would be the end result.
Honestly I would have done the same and sold it. Think of the new home, 2020 GT500, perfect 68 Bullitt replica that would have been worlds better and so much more that he can buy with the money that old rusted Bullitt gave him.

That's the sad part, because usually when a car with such history is bought by a private collector, it's never seen again except by private invitation.

I think it was cool that it was found AND shown off, participated in multiple Ford sanctioned and sponsored events. I dont blame the seller at all for parting with it. It generated income for him and his family. Lets hope they use it wisely.

As for the car, I wouldnt mind seeing it restored to its post-movie condition. That is, right after filming wrapped and it was being driven off the set. Attempt to save as much original paint and sheet metal as possible etc. It should never be fully restored, but it deserves to be in better condition for preservation.

Lets hope its new owner feels its worth keeping in the public eye from time to time.

Would of sold it for much less even.

Cool car, but dang, stupid money for a car in a movie.
