Looking at a xle premium, fully loaded, all options.

Pros and cons?

Solid car. Thankfully, still has the 8 speed auto trans from the Highlander/RX. Large majority of smaller gas Toyota's are now shipping with a steel belt CVT. Glad to see they have a good trans in them.

Oil specification is 0W-16 (yes, really) haha. Oil change intervals should be 10K miles. Id stick with Toyota oil filters at least, but do not substitute the 0W-16 for a heavier weight. The internal tolerances are TIGHT to maximize fuel efficiency. The 0W-16 oil spec is fairly robust, but Toyota/Lexus brand oil is made by Exxon-Mobil and would be my minimum recommendation. Beware, if you go to some Toyota dealers, they use bulk oil that may be rated to 0W-16, but isnt as good as real Toyota oil.

Just watching random reviews previously, the 8 speed Toyota is ruled as bad. Gear shifting not great and people have failures. The previous 6 speed is solid.

The thing about rav4, there are lots of them and every single driver is horrific. Also such a generic, boring no power vehicle.

The TRD model looks fun but the price? Ehhh.

Am I incorrect in thinking the RAV 4 used to have a sporty model with a decently powerful 6 cyl?

Yes, the 3rd gens which went to 2011 had a 269 HP and 246 TQ 3.5L V6.
That was the last of the V6, and they were pretty quick.
