Good for you for cleaning up and getting back on track, I hope this car is everything you want it to be and more.
As for your set up, I ran a dart built 331 with a ysi in an 88 coupe for a while and it was incredible. Miss that car alot

Joe, I think I’ve told you this in person, but I applaud you for the strength to have gotten thru the past and have a positive plan moving forward.
I know the build you’ll create would be something your brother would be proud of.
I’d love to be able to help in any way.
Plus I’m an OG, so I remember the era well :)
Talk to you soon.

Man, sorry for your loss, but thank you for letting us behind the curtain. You clearly have a passion for what you do and this build will be full of it. Looking forward to seeing how this goes.

16x4 16x10. They took me from really liking the car, to loving it instantly. They also determined the direction I’m going with the drivetrain.
What tires are on them? I’m looking for a replacement set for my drag pack and having a difficult time finding a 26” tall tire.

The notch is my favorite mustang and I’m very partial to silver! Great looking car so far.

I understand that need. What about a 427 Windsor? Ford make a crate all aluminum based off the 351w and a single turbo?

Thank you fellas as always for being such a motivating and encouraging group. I’ve learned over the years you never know who you’re talking to, or what they’ve gone through so making the effort to offer support can be super beneficial when you least expect it.
with that said...I’m gonna hit the balcony for a coffee

That is a story worth telling and I want to thank you for sharing it. It is a blessing to me that you are on the other side and it will help others to hear your process.
Now get back from Mexico and get started on this car, you can't get anything done from a balcony.
Just for the record, I don't blame you for not wanting to stay in the cold. You guys up there can have it.

I’m so glad to hear you aren’t going newer drivetrain. Me personally I’d drop a dart block in with some AFR heads a custom cam set up, a nice big centri blower and customer sheet metal intake manifold to look pretty on top.

the sound is classic and the power would be perfect like you mentioned for that set up.

As much as I love Montana, I am a firm believer in going to a warm island almost every winter to escape the bitter brrr. Enjoy your trip as that is also mental therapy to decompress and enjoy time with your wife. I can give great recommendations for your next winter getaway

You guys are all going to be so disappointed lol probably shouldn’t have done a thread for this one since it won’t meet the description of a “radical” build.

With that said I should give you a little background on why this car is important to me and why a notchback is literally THE only car of the....many I’ve had...that I have an emotional attachment to. And to go a step further; I’ve avoided owning one for 15 years now. In 2004 a lost my twin brother unexpectedly (and way too early) to a really senseless act of violence. I went off the deep end for over 12 years after I lost him. Addiction, mental health issues, generally giving up on life. In the process I was frankly, not a good human being. I stopped caring about myself and others. Long story short, I got clean and with the help of my faith, some great counseling, and what little family I had left. I turned my attention to using what I had been through to help others and am now in graduate school for clinical psychology.

Anyhow, back to the notch. My twin and I always shared a love for mustangs. Notchbacks in particular. The last car he had when he was killed was a 93 notch.
I stayed away from notches for the past 15 years because I just wasn’t ready for the flood of memories that came with owning one. I am now. I’m finally ready to have a car that brings me personal joy, therapy and yes, memories.

So what’s my plan? My plan is to go backwards in a time when everyone else is going forward. I’m going to build the car exactly as he would have back in 2004. I hinted that the wheels were an idea of the direction I was going because they were THE wheel for a premium notch back then. I specifically targeted a car with perfect black interior because I plan to leave it 100% alone (ok...Maybe a Holley screen) . Same with the body. No hoods, no carbon, no nothing. Just clean, classic, pure....notchback fox. As for the drivetrain, the same goes. I’m going to build a high end 4 bolt small block Ford and throw some serious boost at it, likely through an F1R/YSI/Single turbo. 700-900hp in this car is plenty to have a high 8 second cruiser. Ofcourse I’ll focus my attention on making the engine, underside etc spectacular. Same powder, polish, sanitary look you’d expect with any other build.
I want the car to look, sound, feel, heck even have that classic fox smell I remember from back when my best friend in the world was still around.

So yeah, that’s why this will be the car I keep forever. That’s why I’m not modernizing it. Maybe I tear it back down in two-three years. Maybe I leave it and enjoy it. Thanks for following along guys. Have an awesome day. I’m out to Mexico :D

Great story and great plan. Couldnt agree more on keeping the beautiful stock interior.

If you get a spare 3 hours search the 50 shades of grey Saleen :)
As for plans on this one....I know I’m going turbo, I know I’m going to go nuts on the details and I know I’m keeping it lol the rest is fluid ATM. Welcome

Oh wow this one is a keeper?!?!? That’s awesome. I’m glad you’ll be able to enjoy the fruits of your labor that you give away to others when you build these amazing mustangs. I’m happy for you. I do think it’s interesting you go turbo on your builds. Is there a reason beside preference because most people shy away from turbos for various reasons. They’re great too just curious as to why if you don’t mind me asking. Happy New year new grey!! Can’t wait to see this monster. I was honestly hoping you were building what will become my next car lol

Very sorry for the loss of your twin. It will be cool to see this as a build in memory of him. Thanks for sharing your story. Glad that you made it through and you’re doing much better. He def would be proud of you and your accomplishments. Especially in the Mustang world. You have a ton of people who admire and respect you. I think this build will help you heal more then you realize because you stayed away from notchbacks. Hope the notch build experience is a blessing in disguise.
