Wow. I was looking at brand new ss and gt before buying my gt500 this summer. Both ford and GM gave considerable cash discounts over financing. They even gave the cash purchase price on a 4yr financing term with 5k down. This is in Alberta.

Crazy !!! 50 years old countless cars, trucks and still cant get one up on the dealership. The cash buyer thing really blows my mind. Keep ya posted. Goin into the belly of the beast tomorrow : ) thnx again all.

Gents:

The dealer has to eat too. The price seems pretty fair assuming the car checks out. No need to not leave him a few morsels on the bone, and you get to drive a great car home for pretty cheap.

One thought - take the financing - and if the rate is good (I’ve seen some rates in the high 2s to low 3s) take your cash and buy an S&P index fund. You’ll probably do way better if this market is any indication of the near future, and you will make a few bucks on the spread. (Of course, past performance is no guarantee of future returns, as the legalese will tell you )

If you don’t like how the market is going then sell the fund and pay off the loan early. No harm, no foul.

Best of luck on your new ride. These cars are a blast...

Canada is different I am sure. Not only that, but new cars are diff than used cars.

Sound advise here. Might just be me but I tend to enjoy a play car more when I have no payment. I tell myself If it sits, it sits. No big deal. With a payment I convince myself if it sits its a waste. I have no legitimate reasoning behind this but Id be lying if I said its the craziest thoughts in my head : ) I did find out the car has been in an accident and this place bought it at auction. Investigating further.

I think you are going to find that if you dig enough, you are going to find something peculiar about all the lower mileage ones. I dug and dug and dug when I was buying mine and they all had something that wasn't right about them.
Don't let them looking stock and low mileage fool you. Those are usually the worst ones of the bunch.
Mine was a decently lower mile'd one and clean carfax. I can tell you for certain that it has had some paint work on the rear pass quarter. I have also personally had a police report of a scratch from I reported as a hit and run show up as an accident on Carfax as well. So you can see both scenarios where Carfax reporting is not really valid whatsoever

Totally get it. Everyone need to be comfortable with whatever decision they make. Do what’s best for you.

Either way if the car checks out its probably a decent buy. And frankly - price never really matters a few weeks after you buy something anyway. If it’s a solid car, whether it’s priced a bit high or low is irrelevant - It’s about owning the car to want - the price gets lost if you don’t like it. If you love it, who cares what you paid...

I bought an 08 gt500 with less than 5k on it from a member on here and it was a phenomenal car. Just because it's low mileage doesn't mean there's an issue. That being said, if there's a low price with the mileage then there might be something to worry about. I would spend a few more grand or so and get a car that hasn't been in a wreck. Even if the car has 20k+ miles that isn't much at all.

Good luck

Agreed, a clean low milage 07’-09’ Shelbys are getting pretty sought after these days. If it checks out, buy it, if something seems off or you feel like the dealership is hiding something, then just walk away. Good luck with your purchase.

Left this one behind. Dealer would not agree to have the car fully checked out. No PPI no leak down no body shop . Could not understand why I was asking so many questions or why they mattered. Rather walk than buy a headache. Thank you all for your input and help.

OP -

I think you made a wise decision by skipping. If they don’t understand why then they’re not going to sell to many specific specialized high performance cars.

+1 Had a GT500, wish I never got rid of it but when I finally got back into the game. I couldn’t afford to straight up buy one so went with at GT. Still miss the 500 and part of me is happy with no payments but another is like, life’s too short not to get what truly makes you happy.

There are others out there. May not be as low mileage but there are some with over 100K on them and still running strong.

because some kid will buy it without a question. Dealers want easy mo ET. They don’t want to deal with a tone that knows anything.
You can pretty much tell by driving it if it’s got issues though. You can look at it and tell if it’s got body work. People aren’t trying to take that kind of time on a $25k Mustang.
I get it though. I am picky like that too within reason

"because some kid will buy it without a question" pretty much word for word what i told him. Never again. I bought my first cobra without looking hard and asking questions. Had to have that blower whine. Big mistake. Took my time on the second and enjoyed the hell out of that car.
