So I found a 2003 satin silver Cobra with 40,000 miles for sale. Car has the typical 2.81/MGW/Magnaflow/Upgraded HE mods. Adult owned for the past 12 years and three other owners before him. Car is very clean. I originally said I felt it was a $19,000 car and he was asking $23,000. He has contacted me asking if I was still interested at $19,000. So I ran the VIN and in 2004 it has a "Moderate damage, front impact with an object" claim on the history. I have never purchased a vehicle with an accident / impact and the owner said he had no idea / can't tell it happened. What would you say that would do to the value?

Yeah he said he never checked the history, said it's been on a lift many times with no evidence of damage. I am going to inspect the car this week I think to see what was replaced or not.

Lol, some of the comments on here are ridiculous. 15K? Walk?

Makes no sense. These cars are worth way more than 15K. I personally hate answers like that because it drives resale value for all our cars down.

Why walk? The car may have been hit by a shopping cart and then fixed. That's no reason to walk away.

I think 23K for a Cobra with 40K miles seems right to me. If he's willing to let it go for 19K that's more than fair IMO.

Good luck. I hope you get it. Sounds like a great car with a motivated seller. Just check it over thoroughly.

Even a rust bucket foxbody asking for that price . For 19k that a dam good price . 40k miles . You can drive and enjoy for many years . Even later at 50k miles . You can get your 19k back .

If you like the car, are not a collector, the engine is healthy, and the front end was repaired well, freaking buy it

sometimes svtp members too damn cheap. Have seen Many people wait 12-18+ months trying to squeeze the last $1000 out of a deal and find the deal of a lifetime.
Life is short, these cars are fun and put a smile on your face!

My first terminator had damage that was 8 months after the car was first titled. You could not tell at all from looking at the car, but it did make it harder to sell when I did get rid of it. Just something to keep in mind, it might be a great car, but everyone is going to try and bring it down if you ever go to sell it.

LOL, really? We all know these cars are worth more than what 99% of the responses said here, but 99% of everything out there doesn't have damage reported on the title search.
If everyone's cars had reported damage then MAYBE I could see the price being driven down on everyone's cars, but you're completely off base with saying that. And you even said it yourself, "Just check it over thoroughly." If he went off your logic there's no reason to check anything because the car is obviously worth it in any condition.

I get your point. However, we all know that when you purchase a car whether its a Cobra or a Honda it is thoroughly checked for the most part (regardless of historical reporting). And according to the OP it says damaged by hitting an "object." So, obviously it was not in a wreck/accident. That's where my comment on the 15K comes from. Your comment implied he should go from 23K to 15K based on the fact it hit an "object." I don't think hitting an object (like a shopping cart or pole at the gas station) warrants such a reduction in price. That was my point and I don't feel it was off base because some people will do research and see your 15K comment and run with it. And as I already stated even with the damage report the Cobra is still worth more than 15K due to the nature of the damage IMO. That's all I was saying.

I'd check the usual, front tire wear, panel alignment, paint work.
For a driver w/40k miles, it might not be a bad car to get into. For the right price.

Point taken. However current owner knows "nothing" of previous damage. For all we know this thing could have had serious damage. Or the current owner isn't coming clean about something. Body shops now a days can make anything almost 100% without anyone ever knowing. Insurance company's only report damage, and more often than not nothing specific unless it's totaled. I just didn't want to see OP get jammed up in something that could ultimately turn out to be a nightmare. Given that I have seen totaled corba's go for 10k, so it's worth whatever you're willing to pay. Starting low as a buyer to haggle is the golden rule.

Going with this ↓ I had a great car that had a very similar front impact description that showed up on reports (couldn't even tell) and PO didn't know much about it (happened to first owner). I was able to get it for a really good price, but it was not easy to sell later on. I loved the car while I had it, and it made sense for me, but yeah, you'll most likely have a noticeably harder time selling when the time comes. For me, the hassle was worth it, but it won't be for everyone.

My first terminator had damage that was 8 months after the car was first titled. You could not tell at all from looking at the car, but it did make it harder to sell when I did get rid of it. This is the cold, harsh reality. As soon as an accident shows up on a carfax......right or wrong, the value is diminished. Doesn't matter if it was minor and repaired flawlessly.....there is a devalued factor to that car. You have to factor that into the price OR YOU will be the one taking the hit down the line. It never washes off no matter how many times you give it bath.

Yes, I can see your point on wanting to help the OP out. And you're right, things are only worth what someone is willing to pay. I want a Lamborghini, but I'm not will to pay the asking price LMAO!!!
