Met up with some buddies (No Hay & RODRIG3911) last Saturday for Cars & Coffee.

QzmUb2i.jpg

Got a lot of compliments on the restoration, especially the body lines and paint color.

oV3b81a.jpg

Finishing up some final touches before the complete detail and nano paint coating tomorrow and big car show Saturday. I also have a photoshoot with Bronco Driver magazine tomorrow that Im really looking forward to

Got the tailgate letters on. Amazing how $15 can completely change the look of the back end. They match the powdercoat perfectly.

I also installed some 3M paint protection film inside the door sills and on the gas gaps. You can barely even tell its there

On the way home I noticed a grinding feel in the wheel from inside the column. Pulled it off and there was no grease between the horn contacts and adapter. Greased it up and the noise is gone

Tried changing out the shift indicator bulb to LED but the bulb I bought was too tall. Ordered this instead: 194 LED Bulb - 3 SMD LED - Miniature Wedge Base | Super Bright LEDs

The car show was a huge success! Overwhelming response from people on our restoration, they loved every little detail. I must have talked to at least 100 different people about it. I also met at least 7 people who have Broncos locally and want help finishing theirs, sell theirs or want to join the local club.

Parked it overnight and covered it with my Hellcat cover. You would think a cover that is for a car that's 4' longer than the Bronco would fit. Nope!

cQfWrJy.jpg

Got there in the morning and setup our hitch mounted swings made by Hammaka. These swings were a huge hit, people loved them almost as much as the Bronco.

ndpsf2V.jpg

I had the hood half way propped open for half the show. Wanted people to see the hood as well as the engine bay but I kept watching people try to peek inside so I raised it up.

KZZ5W9d.jpg

For some reason people wont touch other cars but the Bronco that says DO NOT TOUCH, they put their hands all over. I stopped caring after the 5th person that did it.

Funny story actually, Im talking to this guy and I see this girl literally jogging over from the entrance to the Bronco and she's squealing like a pig. Puts her hands right on the freshly detailed paint and is giddy. She turns around and interrupts us and ask if its mine and I say yes. She walks over and says, "Hi, I'm single!" I laugh it off and continue talking to this guy with his whole family standing there, kids included. Im watching her make laps around the Bronco and she comes back over to interrupt again and I kid you not she says, "it must be difficult getting into this Bronco every day with a boner." Wow...

Anyways, I was so busy talking to people that I forgot to take more than 1 photo during the show. I did find these online from someone else

X3FvM0B.jpg

I used a door prop rod and had the drivers door open so people didnt have to lean over to see inside

z4m3OLC.jpg

4PM rolls around and we are trying to load up and I still have 2 people asking questions about the gas caps and raptorliner. Fired it up and got an email from the Bronco Driver photographer that he was 45 mins away. We raced home, unloaded all the chairs and used an air hose to blow all the dirt off from the show. Somehow made it to the National Park with 4 minutes to spare. We went about 5 miles in and found a great backdrop.

Then the lighting got perfect. These are just slightly edited cell phone pics. Still waiting on his pics and to see if they will make the magazine

Been a busy month and a half and have not done too much since the last car show. I do have another car show Dec 31st at the Nova Home Loans Bowl Game Tailgate. 175 cars on campus next to the stadium. Might even get some TV coverage (CBS Sports 4:15PM on NYE).

I did get contacted by the editor of Hagerty magazine who wants to run a small piece on the Bronco build in an upcoming magazine.

I also submitted the Bronco to Barrett Jackson to see about running it thru the 2020 Scottsdale auction. They took a while to get back to me and now they already have 18 Broncos going thru. They first offered a Sunday and then said they could do Weds, Thurs, or Friday if I wanted. I told him maybe next year.

I did have a magnet come off the interior quarter panels so I used some stronger glue to reattach them and now they sit nice and tight.

Right now Im battling a Horn Wiring Issue that I still have not resolved. Something is grounding out when I bolt everything back together. Hopefully I can get it figured out before the next show otherwise Im going hornless!

dUsAUFT.jpg

Over Thanksgiving I got my Uncles and brother-in-law to gather around the engine bay and watched as they argued or vacuum/mechanical advance. Ever since getting the Bronco back I've felt it was gutless from how it used to drive. We got a timing light on it and no matter what RPM we tried, it was stuck at 10° of timing. We pulled the distributor apart and found 2 different springs on the weights as well as the vacuum advance was very stiff. We picked up some lighter springs, adjusted and hooked up the advance and the first light rev hit 20°. It appeared to top out around 30-32° of timing. We took it for a spin and the power was back! The Bronco can now get out of its own way

tRGPKBW.jpg

I also found a tiny LED bulb for the gear shift indicator: 194 LED Bulb - 3 SMD LED - Miniature Wedge Base | Super Bright LEDs

So now every bulb has been converted to LED

I have been following this thread since day 1. Absolutely fantastic build! I must say, I think the best pictures of the Bronco were the recent ones during sunset, unreal.

On a side note, I hate nothing more than when people touch other individuals vehicles. I went to a cars and coffee 2 years ago and saw a young kid legit do a barrel roll like the Duke Boys on the hood of a brand new Hurucan Performante. I was in such shock, I was devastated. The kids father saw the whole thing and wasn't even phased. I was so tempted to say something to him but didn't. It's unreal how inconsiderate people are...

Appreciate it! The only photos in this thread are still only cell phone pics. I have yet to have professional shots taken and I dont have the photos from Bronco Driver. I will be taking a bunch of photos at the NYE car show as well as loading up the Christmas trees and hauling them to the dump. If no ones around I may try and drive up on the pile of Chrismas trees haha

Wow I would have definitely made a scene if that happened in front of me. If it was on my Bronco, I dont know what I would have done

I had impure thoughts about selling for a split second...

I finally heard back from the consignment manager at Barrett Jackson on putting mine in the Scottsdale auction and his first offer was Sunday afternoon. I told him that's historically not been a good day except the last 2 years where Bronco's average $40K. If Im going to sell mine its gotta be when the alcohol is flowing! He said he could move me to a prime time spot on Weds or Thurs or possibly even move me to Friday morning. That is the day I was hoping for but its just too soon and there's too many Broncos in the auction now to add it this late. I told him I would strongly consider it next year. He said send it in early as next year is the 50th Anniversary of Barrett Jackson and with the new Bronco out, it should be the best Bronco year ever. They have 25 Broncos for 2020 which is a record!

By the way they want $900 for a regular slot and $1,400 for prime time. They give you a 2 hour window on when it should cross the block at no reserve and then you pay the 8% commission. They didn't want to look at it in person and didn't ask any questions about it all. Maybe because I included the build thread with it. They do ask you for an estimated value and short paragraph on it as well as photos and a picture of the VIN/Title.

Also I got the horn wiring/LED light issue solved and fixed. One of the horn contact springs had come loose and was touching the circuit board

Filled the tanks up and pops took it for a spin! Video:
Pulled up to the show at 6:50AM and almost all of the cars were already parked

Got my Hammaka hitch mounted chairs all setup

eqEVmWG.jpg

I get just as many compliments on the Bronco as I do on this hanging chair setup

Majority of the people at the tailgate were from Wyoming and they loved the setup. Said they could fish or hunt from these chairs

We walked around the show and only saw 1 truck that we thought could beat us for Best Classic Truck. Check this thing out

He wound up winning that category but I was shocked to hear my name called for Best Paint out of 150 cars. 2nd car show and first trophy!

Picked up a buddy who hasn't ridden in it since it was white/yellow. We put about 45 miles on and got comments everywhere we went. Had one guy asked if it was built or bought . After we got back my buddy was bummed saying he thought the ladies would be the ones wanting to see it but all we came across were guys haha!

Drove the Bronco back out to fab shop for some minor fixes last Friday. Gas and coolant gauges stopped working, had a small power steering leak from one of the new lines and the backup camera was not working. Got everything fixed except the gas gauge. Rear sending unit read 70 ohms and then 90 ohms when the tank was basically full. I have an electronic valve that switched the tanks and gauge but neither works in the cluster. I just cant believe both sending units could be bad.

Better than a desk view!

Always something cool at this shop. Pulled in next to this clean '57 Sedan Delivery that he installed a 23 gallon gas tank and AC in.

Got the backup camera working so it comes on automatically when I put it in reverse. Wide angle lens and pretty good night vision

Amazing this thing was only $23

I am now getting ready to attend my first AZ Bronco Stampede in late March. Need to get the trailer setup figured out for the Raptor and need a weight distribution hitch due to the soft Fox shocks. The Bronco sits nicely over the trailer axles. Should I tow like this or back the Bronco on?

Easier to get it on the trailer so Ill prob just do that. Fingers crossed for no rock chips!

If you guys have about 10 minutes you need to check this out. A guy just found and bought a 1973 Bronco with 495 original miles on it. It just sat and collected dust almost its entire life. The pictures of the sun rot on the carpet are amazing: 1973 Bronco 495 Miles

He got it running and made a victory lap:

Finally got the trailer set up the way I needed it for the tow to the AZ Bronco Stampede. Made a test run last weekend and it went well at 70mph behind the Raptor

2R5wGrj.jpg

Thinking the wheel chalks are pretty useless since I have four 3,300lb straps attached to the axles. I may move the Bronco back about 6" to center it over the axles better

Thanks for the great update. I read that wanted to put it through BJ. So you're wanting to sell it? That's such a unique and well built Bronco.

Thanks! I thought about it until I saw they had 25+ Broncos this year. I think next year is going to be the peak pricing for old Broncos due to the new one being out. Not actively trying to sell it but everything has its price. I did have someone make a good offer 2 weeks ago just by going through the build thread. He was about $15K too low. Id kick myself after selling it too. Ours was in excellent shape when we bought it and we would spend 3-4x what we did to find another one in that shape
10-15% of gross trailer weight on the hitch.
Thanks. That weight distribution hitch really helped level it out

That green paint is almost identical to my old '70 Ivy Green Metallic Road Runner!
Pretty much identical to this one. I miss it!
