I live in a small town in Texas, Population like 2500.
We have several people from Cali moving in the area and am on the fence of what they'll try to turn Texas too.

Why is everyone leaving Cali? I have heard of SOOOOO many people leaving, what is the reasoning????
many of us leaving are actually "good" Californians ....by that I mean conservative republican lol. many of us in central CA are sick of the taxes, high cost of living, ridiculous laws, and the moronic governor. people think bad about CA and I don't blame them, but it's the politicians in SFO and LA that are ruining the state. Anyway ....soon it won't be my problem .

Ridiculous housing, traffic, and laws.

Also people are selling there’s houses here and pocketing the equity, ditching their mortgages and buying houses cash outside of California.

hell yeah. cashing out my equity. house in AZ will cost 100k less. My money will be invested in stock market and other investments, maybe even more real estate.

Even the fanatically liberal left cant afford California anymore. Every interaction with a state agency is fee'd to death. There are fees for any state, but CA is on another level. The price of fuel is mostly due to California CARB laws (more expensive blend) and the taxes attached to each gallon. Housing costs have skyrocketed in the past 5-6 years. Not that CA has ever been cheap to live in for the last 5 decades, but CA zoning and land development laws are stuck in Administrative hell. You literally need millions of dollars to develop fresh land. So new construction of housing is very expensive. drives the price up on available property and rentals.

Its only going to get worse.
CA will eventually go BK. we are so far into debt it's crazy. and the ****ing governor is making it worse. soon it will be so expensive, we will have the super rich, and the super poor. The bums are already taking over the streets.

I feel you. When the sun is shining I tend to forget about all the stupid stuff. At least until I hit the gas station. Unfortunately we're here for at least 2 more years. But at this point I think we're sticking it out until I retire.
I used to think the same thing. But honestly man, is it really worth just the weather? That is the ONLY good thing about CA. **** the weather, i'll sit in the pool or lake with a 12 pack. You can ALWAYS hop on a plane, travel wherever you want. And PHX connects to the WORLD.

It’s probably bigger, on a bigger lot size and your neighbors are most likely a little further apart than the average Ca home. Way more bang for your buck outside of here.

Truth. British Airways still operates a non-stop 747 flight to London Heathrow a couple times a week out of Sky Harbor. :D

Weather and taxes.... sounds like why so many from NY/NJ move to FL.

You can pay like 15K for property tax, plus state income up in NY, or move to FL, have better weather, pay 3K in taxes on the same house, and no state income tax. Every airport flies to NYC daily if you need to visit family or friends.

Originally the plan was to stick it out until the kids are done with school. Which depending on how that goes will be 2-6 years. But then I landed the federal position I've been trying to get for the last 10 years. That's why I say we might be here until I retire. But once I'm retired we're out.

I’m in the same boat as you are, just not quite at the federal level. Once I retire, we’re outta here. You being in SD, you may have heard of MWD.

I've heard of it. I have looked around at other places the wife and I have talked about moving to and some of them have federal positions. Surprisingly enough.

I hear ya man. I am basically starting a new life and a new sole prop business so kind of rolling the dice. My kids are babys and I feel like now is my one and only chance. I have been in the same city 33 years, so kind of scary taking the plunge. However I am great with numbers and I will sell it all before I have to move back to this shit state LOL. I just have this gut feeling, this is my only chance to start a new life. If I have to move back, God forbid, at least I can say I tried to get out. My wife is in full support, which is awesome, so we are gonna make it happen. One thing I know, life is never fair. You have ups and downs, you just have to be thankful for what ya got. Right now I'm thankful I'm not upside on my house, and have the ability to GTFO.

FL is titties man, lol. I LOVE it. I bought a house out there near clearwater. Still working on it b/c I have lots of shit going on. I will rent it sooner or later. If it was bigger I would move in, but it's not big enough for a family of 4. You ever been to Belleair beach ?

I'm gonna miss Florida. Florida boy through and through: born and raised in miami, high school in pinellas county, undergrad and grad school in Tallahassee. Moving to NC for career after the new year.

After about 5 years I think I'll end up trying to move back. No state income tax, no vehicle inspections, etc, etc...

Congrats on making moves OP
