I'm extremely happy to report that his aggressiveness has subsided through behavior modification and he more clearly knows his place in the pack. The thought of him having to be with another person or family was never what I wanted or intended but my children being at risk was a real concern. This big sumbitch is here to stay and I'm glad he's on my team....I see how strong an fast he is on a daily basis. God help any idiot that comes into my family's domain unwelcome. My Benelli will most likely stay silent with my 137lb (and growing) 2 year old out of his crib at night. I can give my address if anyone would like to help with a case study on the protective nature of his breed ;) .

glad you were able to work him through it! Any tips from what you've had to do?

Surprisingly it's actually been pretty simple. My desire is for him to be good family member and obedient enough when company is here. Basically, it just took consistency in ignoring his bad behavior (growling, mouthing, jumping, and unwanted interruption) while redirecting him with simple command to desired behaviors (sitting, laying down, paw placement, up, and speaking). We've done and continue to do this with treats, positive voice tone, and physical reward (petting/scratching/massaging). His breed is VERY social in require reinforcement from pack members to keep them aware of their place and what is expected of them. In addition to that, Rottweilers are notoriously sensitive to separation anxiety so we've needed to take an extra couple minutes when leaving or arriving home to familiarize him with our schedules and let him know that the pack members are happy to see him and missed him while gone.

It's also been a retraining of my Wife and children for lack of better use of the English language. He's always known I was the Alpha but was confused as to his placement with regard to the Wife and kids. They've just needed to be more firm but positive with consistency. He now responds well to the Wife, my 12 year old daughter, and 7 year old son.

I expect this will improve even further when he is fixed. I'm so happy this worked with him rather than having to remove him from the family because he was growling at children not even 2 months ago and that doesn't happen anymore. He (as is normal for his breed) is very intelligent and has accepted his place and continues to improve on a weekly basis....I personally can tell he's happier, less stressed, and more responsive. I firmly believe he can sense my sense of relief and has 'let his guard down' around me and has become more loving toward me as opposed to just submitting because of my size...he senses the change in the house and we're all happier. It's been in incredible turn around in a short time because of his intelligence desire to be a part of the pack and the consistency and love we've shown him. I couldn't be happier with Henry....I'm glad it's gone this way and not the other; I'm tearing up typing this because I'm a totally ghey. ;) I'm so happy he's staying.
