Hi Gang! I am scheduled to get lasik this thursday at a local lasik plus. The doc that is doing my lasik has done over 84000 surgeries. I had my eye exam stuff last week to make sure I am a good candidate and I am. Couple details...

Cornea thickness is 509

vision is currently -3.50 -1.25 175 corrected via glasses...rarely wear contacts.

I'm about to turn 40 and use the computer/phone ALOT...so my vision is really important for me and my business...so even though I have heard so much good about this subject I am still NERVOUS! lol.

anybody have any experiences to share? good bad and ugly please!!!

What machines does he use? The best tech goes a long way over the cheap chop shops.

did they say anything about losing near vision?
“The question asked is very appropriate and resonates with me very well. I had Laser Vision Correction performed in 1995, when I was 38. As an Ophthalmologist, knowing full well what happens to our ability to read in our 40's, I opted for my dominant right eye to be treated 100%(giving me 20/20 distance vision) and my left eye to be treated 95%(giving me 20/30 distance vision). I am now 55 years old and I am still enjoying relative reading glass independence. So, for me, it was a great choice. I don't feel I sacrificed(then or now) any distance quality or depth perception. Obviously, as a surgeon, my depth perception is crucial. While in my 40's, I did not need reading glasses at all, but decided to get a pair of over the counter reading glasses a few years ago to make reading at night a little easier. I still don't wear readers in the office or out socially, but in low light I now need some help. Interestingly, since the advent of Kindles and iPads, I find that when I am struggling at all, I can just change the font size and keep on going! So, I am a big advocate of addressing reading where it's appropriate. I would discuss it with your surgeon, though, and ask them to demonstrate the result with a contact lens trial to make sure you can tolerate the difference in the two eyes.”

That's interesting, Michael. I had heard from my eye doctor that laser vision correction would definitely give me near perfect distance vision but wouldn't help near vision, requiring me to use reading glasses. The left eye/right eye treatment has my attention. I'm due to go back for an exam in January so I'm going to discuss this with my eye doctor.

I was super close to having LASIK done, but ultimately backed out. They were going to do monovision on me. I did a trial, and the benefits just weren't enough to give up my near sight and wear readers. Hope it turns out well for you OP.

Had it done five years ago. Best money I’ve ever spent. Stabilized at 20/15 and couldn’t be happier. Only downside is I see a bit more glare than before at night. Not terrible though. Well worth the compromise.

Yeah, but do you need readers now for up close vision?

20/60 - 20/70 before. After..... 20/20 - 20/15...... Id say its worth it 100%. You WILL have Halo's around ur eyes for a few weeks but it go away. LED bright lights will have a big circle around them. Kinda like getting out of the pool with chlorine in ur eyes.

Had it done about 5 years ago...aside from light sensitivity for 1-2 months after, all was great. Took maybe 30 seconds per eye split between two machines, and then I slept for 18 hours.

Don't go to any place that advertises on Groupon or does discounts like 'LASIK Institute'...those places are shady and use a revolving door of doctors and interns with little to no accountability.

Funny u say that cause I had them done (12) years ago and yes now my near sight needs glasses to read shit that's really small.

Not on the computer or anything but up really close I have a hard time seeing. I didn't need them before so I guess my eyes have just got worse as far as the near sight goes but I still see like an Eagle from a distance.

Yeah, but do you need readers now for up close vision?

84,000. That’s 17.5 surgeries a day, five days a week, year in, year out for twenty years, assuming doc has four weeks vacation a year.

Not sure if I’d trust that claim.

Remember it is Procedures/surgeries and not people. So 1 person could be two procedures (2 eyes). Plus many do 40 procedures a day for 5 or 6 days. Those numbers add up.

No sir, not yet. But then again I’m still young. I was promised the possibility of needing reading glasses at some point in my life. I’ll report back in a couple decades...

I've been very happy with mine, 4 years later. My only issue has been a bit of dry eye. I just keep eye drops handy.

My doc used IntraLase witch uses a laser to cut the flap and another to do the correction. Maybe a couple minutes per eye total. Walked out seeing well and was at 20/20 or 20/15 the next morning.

Gonna be 13 years this month since I had mine done and I turn 42 this month as well, still the best money Ive ever spent. No issues with near vision and Im still 20/20 during daylight, I was 20/15 for almost a year before leveling out. The only issue I have is that my vision drops to 20/25, 20/30 at night and its been like that since day one so I only wear glasses to drive at night. I also get minor halos at night but I was so ridiculously blind beforehand I dont mind.

I only had clear vision about two inches infront of my eyes, major stigmatism in both eyes and borderline glaucoma depending on the type of test used. Both eyes were brought up to 20/20 and I still cant complain, got it done at Lasik Plus too. Just be ready for the smell, I was ready for everything else except the smell lol.
