I actually wanted to leave Savannah back in 2012. Due to the housing economy being complete shit then and then I went through a divorce, it took me until 2018 to actually be able to leave. The relief of finally being able to escape what you feel is holding you back in life is a feeling that I could never describe, but it is a great feeling.

Moved from Cleveland OH to Scottsdale AZ 6 years ago, purchased a home in Peoria shortly after.

I love the desert. The heat is brutal for 3-4 months but it sure beats trudging around in the slush and lake effect snow in Cleveland. It’s definitely not California weather here but it’s probably 2nd best IMO.

Homes are being built at an incredible rate here in the valley right now, experts say we are on the verge of a “silver tsunami” in PHX so it might be worth doing a ton of research before you buy, like stated above; renting might be your best -short term bet.

Congrats on getting out of that state.

Rent. The Phoenix housing market is inflated beyond what the numbers are showing and we're on the verge of a correction. Get a much nicer house in a few years
I'm getting a used house, maybe something that needs a little work. Once we live there a couple years we are going to build a new one. I know the market is high right now, it's the same in CA.

I love the desert. We take the toy hauler out and just ride for miles. I'm used to the dry heat. I'm in central cal and the weather is over 100^ all the time. I just go to the lake lol. Speaking of, I hope to find a place close to the water.

Best of luck OP. I escaped the Peoples Republic of New Jersey in 2002. I could never go back, except to visit.

I live in a small town in Texas, Population like 2500.
We have several people from Cali moving in the area and am on the fence of what they'll try to turn Texas too.

Why is everyone leaving Cali? I have heard of SOOOOO many people leaving, what is the reasoning????

Ridiculous housing, traffic, and laws.

Also people are selling there’s houses here and pocketing the equity, ditching their mortgages and buying houses cash outside of California.

well things are falling into place, wifey and I are going to move to AZ! Got my bank lined up and found a realtor to start scoping out homes. I am SO ready to GTFO of CA. my parents are really bummed out but hell they can buy a vacation home lol. I do have some family in AZ so that's a plus. I will be working until Feb and then I'm done. It's off for a new life. I'm gonna miss my friends and family but this is my only chance to leave before my kids start going to school. Anyone else move out of state? Did you regret it? Did it improve your life ?

Congrats bro that's great. You are doing it at the right time before kids start school... very smart.

You have any work lined up yet? I think youre in Transportation, right?

Moved from Savannah, Ga to Colorado Springs 2 years ago. I love that I wake up every day and the weather is usually nice and not humid. There are no bugs here either. Being outside here is awesome. Only downsides are the altitude kills horsepower, and there are a lot of bums.

Unfortunately CO is the new CA. Your gun rights will be gone very soon too.

CO is a beautiful place.. sad, really. I worked in Denver and also the Springs all year.

Even the fanatically liberal left cant afford California anymore. Every interaction with a state agency is fee'd to death. There are fees for any state, but CA is on another level. The price of fuel is mostly due to California CARB laws (more expensive blend) and the taxes attached to each gallon. Housing costs have skyrocketed in the past 5-6 years. Not that CA has ever been cheap to live in for the last 5 decades, but CA zoning and land development laws are stuck in Administrative hell. You literally need millions of dollars to develop fresh land. So new construction of housing is very expensive. drives the price up on available property and rentals.

Its only going to get worse.

I hear ya man. Your sitting in a prime location where you are at. Do you surf often or just like being close to the coast? You could trade the salt water for fresh water and move by a river. I was born here in CA and moved to south east WA state (Pasco, Wa) in the early 90’s when I was 4 years old. My parents sold there house here in Diamond Bar and bought 4 houses up there and rented 3 of them out and the house I grew up in was on a acre of land. I grew up a 1/4 mile away from the Columbia River and I would take the CR over the ocean/beach any day! Winters were mild, summers are hot and dry like here (east of the cascades is a desert), you truly get all 4 seasons up there and the best part, no smog laws!

I feel you. When the sun is shining I tend to forget about all the stupid stuff. At least until I hit the gas station. Unfortunately we're here for at least 2 more years. But at this point I think we're sticking it out until I retire.

If youre a coastal guy that loves to surf, yeah it would be hard to leave San Diego/OC.

As for the heat, yeah its not pleasant mid Jun -Mid September, but its not terrible. Air conditioning, a pool/lake and Northern Arizona make it very tolerable. "Winter" here in Phoenix is absolutely beautiful. Right now its raining with full sunshine from the west. Thunderstorms moving in from the east and its 63F.
