I’m looking for a Dremel kit for multiple projects around my place. Cutting, sanding, polishing, stripping wood and wood working.

What would you fellas recommend?

I’d like a corded Dremel with the flex kit and as many accessory pieces as I can get for under $150.

However, I don’t know enough about them to select the right one.

There’s a 3000 series and 4000 series. And then I noticed several have a hypen and a number after the series number. (Dremel 4300-5/40) Like what’s all that mean?

There’s also 1.6 amp models and 1.2 amp models.

Thanks in advance.

4000 series here with the flex head kit. Home Depot had the best price a few years ago so i picked both of them up at the same time to replace my old 3000 or 3500 series.

The 4000 has plenty of "oomph" to do just about anything. I recently just used it to port match an intake manifold to a ported throttle body on our chump car. The flex head made it so easy to get into all the little nooks of the Hyundai intake. The one issue i have with the flex head is if the flexible shaft is too bent it will strain the motor. Anything over say 40 degrees and you could hear the motor strain trying to power through the bend in the shaft.

The higher model numbers also have easily replaceable brushes. The lower end models are listed as non-serviceable but ive had good luck finding brushes for drill motors that work if you need to replace them.

Thanks for the insight!

Edit: after comparing all the options and kits, it looks like this one gives me the best value for my dollar.

That is a really good deal. I think i paid $100 for just my 4000 series. The flex shaft was another $40 and then the add on bits were another $40-50.

Wow, that’s pricey.

I also found this in my search.

Every Dremel I ever had ended up in disaster. They all burned up. Nice for small or tiny projects but that's about it. I couldn't imagine using one for porting even a lawn mower cylinder head.

Ugh.....possibly the most over-rated tool ever created.

I've been using the same corded Dremel for 20 years. I have used it to polish intake manifolds, grind metal, cut wood and the list goes on. I have used the shit out of this thing and I have replaced the brushes in it once. ONCE! It has been flawless and the damn thing just won't quit. Just don't be an idiot and think it's going to cut 1/4" plate over and over. Sure it can do it but be smart and know when to get your angle grinder out. Use the tool as intended and it's awesome.

I’ve never had great success with a dremel. Always ended up feeling too small to accomplish anything.

looks nice. Kinda been “learning my lesson“ with cordless stuff, tho.

how good is your battery life?

Battery life isn’t bad at all! I’ve had very good luck with Milwaukee tools and batteries. The batteries last awhile and recharge faster than I can drain them.

I love my Dremel! Best damn tool ever invented, I use it for so many varied tasks.

I bought a medium size fishing tackle box to hold the tool and all the attachments in one place. I keep buying more bits whenever I see them. It's an obsession, hahaaa.

You never took a machine class in your life. Porting and polishing makes life easier with that tool!
