I don’t think this makes the GT500 out to be any less of a stellar vehicle if the C8Z trounces it, it really should be expected.

Personally the only appeal to the GT500 for me though is that I could fit my son in the back so it would be a more family friendly weekend ride.
It has literally zero chance against the C8z, I say that without even knowing any details... And you are right, it doesnt take anything away from the 500, it is certainly impressive but people have expectations WAAAAY too high based on a VERY un comparable video lap from grattan.

When has a new svt mustang kept up with the old z06? Let alone beating it?
03 or 07 vs c5z? No
11 or 13 vs c6z? Not a chance.

My expectation is that it will ~= to non heat soaked C7Z06.
- It weighs more but makes up for it in power.
- It has comparable aero
- It has better transmission
- It has better tires and rolling stock (TP)

Why wouldn't it be on par?

It is faster than the C7Z06. By the lap times we are seeing. My point is this is the first time the Shelby/SVT mustang is as fast or faster than the out going Z06.

It has not happened before.

It has not happened before.

It was bound to happen.

The OEM's are just about there, in terms of reaching the limits of a front engine layout. GM had been flirting with these limits for years, and was simply at the point of diminishing returns with the Vette. Ford was able to close the gap (had a lot of room to improve over the last 500), but is likely now at the same point with the new 500.

The move to a M/R layout extends these limits significantly now.

pretty much, and while I doubt we see a return, if the viper were to come back it likely would be the same platform.

We haven't seen ANY lap times. The only real scale we have is DBK saying it runs a low 2:40 at VIR. A properly running C7Z is also a rare sighting. Saying it beats the C7Z is nonsense news.

At certain tracks it’s numbers are close to or even better than the ACR which is astonishing.

This tells me it’s significantly faster than the z06 on most tracks. I have yet to see one person in the know doing this statement.

Please post these lap times with links. Also, the Grattan times are bullshit and makes sense why they're not posted in the fastest laps website.

Look at the difference between the ACR cars. Gen IV and Gen V ACR cars are not under 1 sec apart, they are several seconds.

So, looking forward to these lap times "we are seeing".

That’s why Winkler and the Dodge lap time record tour could only hit a 1:22.

What are you disputing? That the GT500 is slower than the C7Z06 or the the GT500 is not as good as the ACR V?

If it’s the latter I agree with you. The ACR is faster and better track car.

You have to stop generalizing. The GT500 is not in the same area code as an ACR and wont be faster than a proper running C7Z either based on the VIR info. You can not compare laps several years apart. We see 5 second differences throughout a year.. Road course is not a simple thing.

To have an all out track record is great but what matters is what they do on the same day with professional drivers. Anything less is purely subjective.

A good example is the Senna clocked only 1 sec faster than the ACR with Randy P driving at LS.(different days) The Senna is much faster than that but variables kicked in and there you have it.

My only gripe with the '20 GT500 is the weight. But I see 2007 all over again, so the next generation GT500s will drop weight which imo will be the GT500 to get.
