So wife has never been to DC and wants to go this spring. Will not go during the cherry blossom thing as do not like crowds. Anyway where would be the best areas to stay? Plan on using the metro going to and from as have heard traffic is terrible. Was not bad when I went but that was back in the 80's. Need somewhere that is accessible to the hotel. Do not know if hotels provide shuttle to and from the station. Thanks for any hints.
If I’m not staying in the City, I always stay somewhere that has a metro stop either outside or under the hotel. I think there are a couple over in Alexandria.

If I’m traveling with the wife in DC, I’ll stay at the Kimpton Hotel Monte Carlo on F Street. I swear some of the rooms remind me of The Shining.

Two pieces of advice. Wear your most comfortable shoes and visit the holocaust museum.

Both are good advice, my wife forgot to pack shoes for her and was wearing flip flops on the ride up there. After the first day we had to go buy her a pair of shoes lol

Easiest hotel for metro access is the Marriott at metro center. I stay there for work pretty often and it’s close to everything.

I went during spring break last year and it was miserable. The museums were packed! Something to think about. Also short 2-3 hour drive north will land you in Gettysburg, that was really cool and you can easily burn a day there including the travel time.

What time of year were you there? We have been to Gettysburg. Spent three days there a few years back and it is awesome. Also did Sharpsburg when we were touring the battlefields on that trip.

I recommend the night time monument tour. We did it with kids when they were under 10 and was a lot of fun. The tour guide tells u alot of stuff the history book dont.

I was there the last week of March. I believe we just missed the cherry blossom festival as well. Weather was very nice at the time.

Baltimore's inner harbor is cool, as is the aquarium. Water taxis get you anywhere. Fort Mchenry is one stop.

If you stay in Va, there's water taxis from Old Town Alexandria that go to both Georgetown and to the National Harbor in Md. No subways at any of these locations, though. Fairfax Va, the NRA has the firearms museum, took my son there last week. The National museum of the Marine Corps is right next to Quantico on rt. 95, I've heard it's a must see.

You need to visit California for some Mexican food. The only place better would probably be Mexico itself.

Oh no no no, the only thing California does right is Mexican food. The only time Ca > Tx is in the kitchen, (Mexican food only, Tx bbq kicks ass).
