I'd only consider it if my car was mainly a drag strip car. My car hasn't ever been to the track. I'm probably in the 675-700 rwhp range.

If he's shooting for 650 rwhp and strictly street driving, I sure wouldn't swap out the irs.

I have the same train of thought as Bdubbs. If I was building a strip beast I'd go SRA. But I canyon carve with mine so I'll stick with IRS.

Why the hell anyone that doesn't have a dedicated strip car would swap in a god awful SRA is beyond me. I started off modding the stick axle in my GT and absolutely hated how the car felt over rough pavement and how badly the rear was upset buy other bumps. I sourced an IRS out of an 03 and bought damn near every component made by FTBR. After driving the car for 10 minutes you'd have to put a gun to my head or offer me some unreal amount of money to get me to switch back. Hopefully for your friends sake he doesn't regret it but IMOP the stick axle is garbage in these cars and requires far to much money to make work correctly.

I also have a buddy that has a DSG Terminator that he is in the middle of putting a solid axle in. My opinion if you are trying to get deep in the 9s and even 8s in the 1/4 mile than ya a Solid axle would be a good bet. Other than that I much prefer the IRS. It's been in the 9s many a times so its good enough for me.

Also now that the value of the Terminator has started to increase the ones with the IRS will be fetching more over the average.

I have a solid in my car, just because it is mainly a drag car. If it never saw the track, I would have definitely kept it IRS, BUT a solid with nice suspension mods and a good posi isn't all that terrible on the road.

The new edges were a better street car with the IRS designed. Whether it was a cobra (standard) or if you got your hands on one and installed it in variant of GT Saleen Roush etc. Night and Day (drove a buddies GT with the swap). Wish ford gave you the option. Fast forward 15 years and I think that would still hold true (optional suspension). Don’t get me wrong I love the s550 but there’s something still about having that SRA optional that’s untamed. Atlas It’s probably drive ford nuts on the production line to be having 2 stations but hey... they got a electric 4door mustang suv so anything can happen now.

Then he start show me the March e mustang , what s piece of crap . Why they have to put the mustang horse emblem on it ...

I've thought about it before but I'm glad I never went through with it. If you're going to the track alot, no problem with it. The 03/04 irs is pretty darn tough. Put a cover on it, some diff bushings, and run a drag radial to reduce hop and it's pretty stout for your average 6-700 rwhp car. Looks wise? Irs hands down.

I never did, because IRS is one of the key traits of a terminator. I would build a non-cobra if I wanted SRA.

So for my first cobra I actually ended up swapping it to SRA. It was a whipple 2.9 E85 car that mainly did highway runs. Sold that one and now have a almost stock 03 and this time around I am making sure to keep it IRS. Main reason was cost for the last one. Hard to say not to a built rear for the cost of half shafts alone!
