If true, the next ZR1 is going full-on hypercar:

C8 Corvette ZR1 Will Get 900-HP, Twin-Turbo, Hybrid V8 Engine: Report

Our friends over at Motor Trend have a source saying that not only will the ZR1 be the expected halo car for the C8, but it'll also be a twin-turbo hybrid V8 that will be packing some serious horses.

This is the first time that we've heard concrete news about a hybrid version of the C8, and their source has confirmed that it is indeed coming very soon. The supposed ZR1 will utilize the engine found in the Z06, a dual-overhead-cam V8 that happens to be flat-plane-crank and twin-turbo; similar to the one found in the C8.R race car. The hybrid system will be completely performance oriented, and will place an electric motor between the engine and transmission to increase output considerably to 900 horsepower. That's not all, apparently, the C8 Stingray has some space in the front trunk that's reserved for a pair of front-mounted electric motors that are said to increase performance and apply torque vectoring to aid the rear axle and its electronically controlled limited-slip diff, essentially meaning that the ZR1 will be all-wheel drive.

Hybrid TTV8 900bhp with AWD?

Sounds like a 918 without the 800K price-tag.

Gonna be crazy power 900hp stock out of the factory. I wonder how much weight that car will be as a hybrid?

Since the big debate on the new C8 is how much lighter it is than the new GT500

Seems like a solid move for them. I’m sure this will ring in closer to 200k but I bet it works as a great way to filter this tech through their line up.

Definitely be interested in it when it comes out. Hopefully I’ll be in the market for a 720s at the same time and see which one I like more. Looks promising.

Read this earlier. The C8 is succeeding in making the vast majority of supercars irrelevant. The ZR1 will probably do the same with hypercars. Well done GM well done.

Pick your poison.
How so? Even a GM test driver said why go to mid engine they were competing with the front engine. The c8 is heavy and handling is less the great. Very underwhelming if I do say so.

The C8 ZR1 will be fast but I doubt it will be as refined as the HyperCars.

One butt hurt ex-test driver questions why go mid engine, when virtually ever single super/hyper car out there is configured that way. I guess everyone else is stupid. For a brand new platform, it has received overwhelmingly good reviews. Everyone is quick to point out the very few blemishes though.

And handling???? This is the entry level C8 for the masses, and it still handles very well. They need to keep all the 60-70 yr old guys from launching these things off the road. You want hard core handling...........just wait

Even asking if a C8 compares to a 720S is flattering......A full on CF, $400K + car, with the typical reliability of a British car. Performance, Cost, or Refinement as you put it. Pick two.

All the underwhelming C8's were pre production cars, they'll get it sorted. And just wait till its on a real tire... Thats all going to change drastically.

And the 720S is fast but it can not out run the disgusting noise that it makes at WOT

This sounds like it will be a beast!

Since it is already being speculated to be beater than a McLaren 720S, I wonder what this C8 ZR1 will be priced at.

Considering the last ZR1 was roughly 150-160K without every option, with tax/gas guzzler, I am thinking the new one will be a lot closer to 200K optioned out.

Still much cheaper than a 720S, but, I still don't think it will be as similar as some are making it out to be.

did anyone honestly think Corvette wasn't going to just blow the GT500's doors off? I'm a Ford guy through and through, but DAMN this is going to hurt a lot of feelings. Hard to compete with GM and Dodge right now.
I cannot wait for this thing to hit the roads/tracks
