not at my post...
Jim Farley is some asshole who is a former Lexus VP. Huge ego, bad temper and somehow weaseled his way into Ford upper management.

It's does not surprise me in the least that this car being named Mustang is Farley's idea. My condolences to the people at Ford

Wow...did he get run outta of Lexus?

He was hired away from Toyota/Lexus from what I understand. As his career got bigger, his temper started flaring and the legendary Good Jim/Bad Jim persona arrived. whether its an act or he's just genuinely developed an ego complex, it now runs at Ford. apparently he was a Mustang guy in college.

Which leads me to believe that either he fluffed Hackett's balls when floating the idea of naming this thing a Mustang, or had to swallow his Mustang pride when asked by Hackett if using Mustang as a performance brand on this car would be a good idea.

I believe this thing lowers the emissions ratings of all Mustangs. Not 100% on that.

With that said, naming it Mustang was dumb. But what's even more dumb and boomer ish is to have a petition to rename a car lol

^shouldnt have been named after any car period. Not falcon, not galaxy... Just Mach E would have been fine

^This^. Mach-E would've been fine. Having said that, It doesn't bother me that much. It's just a stupid decision and give Camero owners & Dodge Thuds something to hoot about. That new Chevy Blazer is a disgrace too.

So, I read this the other day. I have no idea if it's the actual direction that they plan to go but it wouldn't surprise me.

They are probably going to create "Mustang" as a sub-brand. Just like Dodge did with SRT, or Hyundai with Genesis. They are divorcing the line from the parent company.

From what I understand, it's extremely difficult to sell expensive Fords anywhere in the world but the US. They look at them as cheap shitboxes, because traditionally that's all they were. The most expensive Ford you can buy in most of Europe is an optioned up Edge and apparently the sales on that are shit.

They don't sell the Mustang as a cheap pony car overseas. They start at like 38K pounds (in the UK obviously) for an EB, which their base cars are our premiums I guess. Mustang has more sense of luxury outside of the states than it does here. They are attaching this moniker to this stupid electric Edge to drive people away from the cheap Ford image and to a nicer branding.

I kind of wish they would have done it under Lincoln.

"Mustang" a separate sub-brand and separate from other Ford products? That direction would be very unlikely IMO? They already have Lincoln as a separate division. No, just don't see that happening. SRT more identifies with Ford Performance. Genesis is to Hyundai what Acura is to Honda. If Ford WAS going to go in that direction IMO they would have chosen another name. Certainly not "Mustang". Very few people in the U.S. would see "Mustang" as a luxury line. JMO.

They could have done this as a Lincoln offering (which would make more sense if they wanted an upscale vehicle), but Lincoln doesn't have anything to compare to the current Mustang, so the styling would have to change quite a bit to get rid of the Mustang cues.

This is one of the most confusing decisions Ford has ever made IMO. Look at the Rivian R1S. It's a different design/model vs. the Mustang E, but look at the specs and design. It's a unique design, not a confusing blend of a crossover and Mustang. 0-60 is 3 seconds. Up to 750 hp. Quad-motor system for superior handling, on and off-road. 400+mile range. Their truck is mind blowing. I only point the Rivian out because IMO Ford should have designed a completely NEW all-electric vehicle that is so stunning design-wise and feature-wise, inside and out, that the public would accept it en-mass. Ford chose not to take a risk and instead try to cash in on a popular model name. They took the easier path, but in doing so, they got lost along the way.

This sounds like an iMac versus Mac Pro badging discussion. At the end of the day this will be the highest performance, all weather, 4 door daily driver 'mustang' I think most here would love to take for a test drive. Also SO much better looking than the Tesla Model Y.

I think it sucks. The front looks like an escape the back looks like a Pontiac Aztec. Complete and utter crap!

Lincoln has been killing it with design and quality same with Audi. The RS6 RS8 and etron home runs!

Wheres the damn bronco? Defender is out and looks great! Another what if from Ford!

A multi billion dollar global automaker is not going to change the name of a car based on what a bunch of ****ing peasants think.

He was also personally recruited by Bill Ford.
