Which 76 you want to compare? only like a dozen of them. 76/75 is a downgrade for me. Bought installed, tested, removed. Housing swaps, ect. Not spending $3,000+ extra. Plus the cost of converter change and refab. Other ways to spend the money wisely. There's more to it than just a simple turbo swap. Ever drive a 88mm with a 1.40 housing connected to a 281ci on the street? I mean crap make 1400hp on the dyno - should be good for the street right?
You do realize there several classes that require a 76 as the largest and those cars are making probably twice what your car does and spool the same. Just because you tried an off the shelf gen 1 76/75 precision doesn't mean you can blanket statement all 76's are the same. Jake Conant was running a class specific 76mm and his trap says he was putting down north of 1300rwhp through an auto.

Ask him who built it and check up a little just to cya.
Also, does it still have lock up or did they remove it
with the 1 piece input shaft? Personally I wouldn’t use a 4r unless it still has lock up. That’s the biggest feature that makes the tranny so streetable imho.
3k isn’t bad depending how built it is, mileage and how much stuff comes with it. If the 3k is for the trans only then it may be a bit high. If it has the converter and miscellaneous other items needed to swap it in then that’s pretty good!

I remember him saying it has a lock up in overdrive. And it has 2 converters. 3k was priced for everything.

Never ever buy a used trans with plans to simply drop it right in. Assume it needs to be gone through and freshened first no matter what the seller tells you. Also make sure they have proof of everything that's in the trans to hold the claimed power. Seen so many guys get burned buying big ticket items used.

Preferably you want lock up to be able to function in 2nd, 3rd and OD. If his is setup to only lockup in OD that would be a con in my book. If I’m driving around town or back roads that doesn’t warrant OD I can still lock the converter (toggle switch) to keep the higher stall converter I have from generating to much heat from slipping. Depending on what the final stall you run is you may not need it except for OD but I like having the option to lock it in anything other than 1st.

Plus I agree with Badcobra. I would get it checked out and get a list of everything that should be in it.

Everyone has good points in here. Those are things I would had missed thinking of but it makes all the sense in the world. The more we talk about this subject the more I am leaning toward keeping it with a t56 magnum and selling my turbos laying around to start from a good turbo combo for that t56. I think with the proper set up system it will work for my street and strip plans.... I am open to any suggestions at this point for a turbo lay out. Keep in mind its gonna be 10:5.1 c/r with sullivan/hpp combo and 7.5 or so rpm redline...
