Online forums (which I don’t consider social media TBH) have been available for over thirty years. It’s the recent social media causing issues. I don’t understand why people feel the need to post comments on every issue out there and I have an even greater lack of understanding why people would follow celebs and others just to hear opinions, life issues, etc..

I don't think it's modern social media as much as it is political hacks realizing they can reach a broader audience for their B.S. through it. It just took them this long to figure that out.
