Why is it that left vs. right is so goddamn hard at Costco. Every. Damn. Time. There is a little arrow in the cluster that SHOWS THE SIDE OF THE DAMN GAS TANK! /rant

I tend to agree, but they actually train the attendant to direct you to another pump regardless of what side your gas door is on. If a line is forming behind one pump they’ll direct you to another pump and inform you the hose is long enough to reach. I’ve taken the training.

Looks like the vehicle in front of him is in the same boat.

I just had a rental that didn't have the arrow. I couldn't tell which side it was on as I pulled into a busy airport station. Luckily I was able to open the locked gas door while driving to catch a glimpse.

7 things to know before you buy gas at Costco Wholesale - Clark Howard

3. It doesn’t matter which side the gas tank is on
Before you pull up to the pump at any other gas station, you have to think about which side of the car your gas tank is on — but not at Costco!

There’s a one-way traffic flow and extra-long pump hoses allow you to fill up from either side.

I don't see the issue as long as the cord reaches why does it matter?

Because average joe schmo is a lazy P.O.S. and because i'm sure scrapping a fuel line across the paint job because joe schmo is lazy is a great excuse for swirl marks.

You should definitely know what side your gas door is on, but not many cars have arrows in the cluster anymore.
What? If there isn’t an arrow, there’s a gas pump icon which shows (the gas pump hose) on either the left or right side of the icon itself.

None of my vehicles have anything that tells you what side the door is on besides my 08 accord

I don't know - I've done that plenty of times and have never once touched the hose against my paint.

Seems like an overreaction to me.
