I'm in the middle of replacing my front lower control arms. I managed to successfully remove the "impossible bolt" AKA the LCA mount bolt, and the LCA rear bolts but now I can't get the part closest to the brake (the ball joint I think its called - see pic below) to come out or push down.

One install video I found, the guy suggested putting a screwdriver in/against it and hitting with a hammer....I've tried that but it hasn't moved at all. Another install guide suggested using a pry bar or big screwdriver. I also tried that but haven't had any luck. Hoping someone here has a secret tip that will help me get this done, lol. Thanks.

I just discovered that a thing called a ball joint separator exists. I might have thought to buy that if I hadn't been so focused on the impossible bolt. Might try to get one tomorrow if I can make it over to Auto Zone but if anyone has any other suggestions/alternatives, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I had the same problem when I did mine until I saw a trick on GearzTV and got it. With a BFH ( I used a 3 lb hammer) and give the clamping area a good solid whack until the LCA just falls free. It'll take a pretty big whack so try not to miss. I didn't know about the tool either.

I ended up using a hammer....repeatedly. It was loud and unpleasant but I got both front LCA's replaced. I drove the car 65ish miles afterwards and nothing fell off so I would call that a success.

Now I just need to get an alignment.
