This fleet I interviewed at had no baseline for their fleet at all. I was asked if I could write a program for their fleet and come up with a budget within the next couple of months. Also asked if I could go in front of town council for approval of the budget or other things for the town. I said I haven’t because where I am at we have a guy that does the budget and tracks this, I also said we have a program in existence that tracks our fleet schedule with pms and such. I also explained how we acquire and decide to get rid of our equipment. I have seen all sides of this business but like I told them I don’t know what I can do to get that experience besides having to quit and try and find a management job somewhere else but then I won’t get that because of no experience. So without someone taking a chance you never know if you can or can’t do something. I am comfortable with what I am doing in life but i am also taking a chance on this move too. Maybe I won’t like it? Maybe it’s not the right fit? But every time I have been given the chance to fill in and cover for current management I do an excellent job at it. I told my wife the other day that I remember back in the day everyone pushed to have a degree, without it you won’t succeed. Now without experience it seems like nothing else really matters. Within the first couple of minutes talking to the three interviewers i had a feeling they already chose someone else. They were just going through the motions.

I don't know what your financial situation is, but if you have a good 6 months emergency fund built up and you would like to try and move up, I'd quit and start spending every day for the next couple of months meeting people and putting my resume out. With unemployment being at 3.5%, it is hard to find experienced people in any industry. I think you will land something pretty quick. If you don't land something, you can also get another mechanic job and try to get some more hourly money.
