Not only is the straight line performance improved over the explorer sport but the ride and handling is vastly improved! Ford did an excellent job on the ST!

No. No. No. No. A big fat soccer mom SUV should not wear the ST badge. Keep it as the Explorer Sport and all is well. What a shameless money grab to use a good name. Sorry not sorry.

I dont feel that the st nameplate is that prestigious or sought after. Just a couple of fwd shit boxes. Not as bad as a mustang suv.

Wonder how a straight 93 tune would have done on the ST, I think that would have been a better comparisson. Not sure about anyone else but it sounds like a PITA to fill both 93 and E85 every fillup.

It would be a lot cooler with the 3.5eb from the factory. Hp and tq numbers would be matched between the two vehicles. Ford really knows how to miss the mark the mark in some way when it comes to their vehicles lately.

The ST is stout but I think I’d still rather have the srt Jeep or possibly the Durango over the ST, stock for stock.

Couple of observations.

Explorer sounds pretty rough.
Tuned, it probably makes more at the wheel than the Durango SRT
Explorer weighs 4,800LBS vs. the SRT Durango @ 5,500LBS

Both are priced very close to one another, but, I'd take the larger, heavier Durango SRT over the ST all day, every day.

Stock vs. Stock, SRT murders it and still hangs with a tuned ST despite having several hundreds of pounds of extra weight on it.

Good times on the ST though, that is quick for an SUV.

First off, they are comparing apples to bowling balls. How many people would be willing to sacrifice their powertrain warranty with an aftermarket tune on their new $60K Ford Explorer?

Secondly, I wouldn't let that guy drive a golf cart, let alone a 475 hp SUV.
His best 0-60 mph track time in the SRT Durango was 5 seconds?
The 8.63 sec. 1/8 mile he ran equates to approx. 13.5 sec 1/4 mile.

The SRT Durango has a NHRA certified 1/4 mile at 12.9 sec.
My best street times in my 2018 SRT Durango so far has been 0-60 mph = 4.2 sec. and 1/4 mile = 12.7 seconds on a cool dry 40 degree sunny day without launch control.

Here is quick video of one of my 4.5 sec. 0-60 mph:

I looked at an Explorer ST on the lot of my local Ford dealer last week. While I did like the looks of the ST the MSRP of $60K made me lose my breath...lol. Well not worth it for an Explorer.

plus dodge has some pretty substantial incentives on SRT vehicles, you probably can get at least 10K off. My buddy got around 14K off an SRT Cherokee early this year.

Yeah the RS' are badass machines but the ST's in europe didn't come out until 2004 (might be wrong) and I dont think compare to RS models.

ST was around before that. The first model was a Mondeo in 1997. The 2002 SVT Focus was the ST170 in Europe.
