Good to know. I want to have mine powder coated prior to final installation.

I appreciate the info guys. I plan on doing this sometime during these long winter months.

I wanted to havr mine powder coated but my guy didn't want to do it with the piston seals in place, he was afraid it would hurt them. He didn't have a e14 torx socket so he just painted them. I had to take one of mine apart and one of them striped the head so I had to cut it now I can't find a factory bolt anywhere.

So...just brainstorming.

SInce the ATS Brembos and the 42mm x 4 pistons up front add a lot of braking force, I was thinking of an easy way to add some rear braking power to compensate. Didn't make sense to spend big bucks on a rear kit and go with a cheap front setup.

I wanted something that would keep the rear parking brake functional.

I found this.

93-97 Ford Taurus rear caliper
42.8mm

Spitting image of the Varga 38mm caliper on the Sn95 GT and Cobra.

I'm wondering...would it direct swap? This needs to be tested out to be confirmed. I haven't done it yet, but rather than sit on the info, i figure i throw it out there in case someone wants to grab one from the parts store to test fit before I do.

That just might work. I put a mustang caliper on my tbird when i was trying to go to the 11" rear rotor. It fit but the parking brake cable loaded different and didn't work well. But that looks to be set up the same as the stang.

Ill pick one up to test. Will help with brake bias (if it fits) but the next hurdle would be master cylinder selection to account for the extra volume.

Let’s cross that bridge if we come to it

Well, this is interesting.

The 43mm rear calipers swap right onto the Sn95 pad hangers. It's the same exact casting. Parking brake hookup is the same as well.

Really nice. Do they use the same size rotor?

No need to touch the rotor. The only part I swapped is the bare cast iron caliper. The rotor is 11.65" cobra, and the red bracket is the original cobra pad hanger. The casting is exactly the same, the onle difference being it features a 43mm piston vs the SN95 38mm (you can see the 38 and 43 stamped on the calipers in the first photo to denote piston sizes)

You could swap this caliper onto a GT brake setup as well if you wanted to run the smaller 10.5" GT rotors, but not give up brake performance as well.

With larger caliper pistons though, MC selection becomes an issue. I have a few options with vacuum booster brakes on my fox, but not sure there are options for various MC sizes with hydroboost brakes.

So would the 03-04 Cobra guys need to update their master cylinder going to 43mm rear piston caliper?

Unsure just yet. This info is less than 24 hours old.

Normally with larger pistons, the MC size needs to also increase to accommodate. If using with the ATS brembos, you’ve gone from 40.5mm twin piston fronts and 38mm rear to 42mm brembos and a 43mm rear. That increase in surface area requires a proportional increase at the MC

What Mc bore sizes exist for hydroboost? All the same?

I don't know if there's any difference in hydroboost vs vacuum boost master cylinders, is there?

I believe cpp sells hydroboost kits for street rods and custom applications, you might contact them. The booster they use looks identical to ours.
