I love that this thread is still going. Not going to lie it's made me look at used Fiesta ST pricing.

Thanks! Its been rough trying to keep up on the Fiesta. Work had some set backs where i lost my superintendent so its taken 90% of my time away from FiST updates and finishing the Chump Car Elantra. Good news is that after this weekend i have a few weeks where ill be free to install some cooling mods to the brakes.

Last autocross events for CDC are October 5/6 and ill be attending both with the Fiesta and maybe the Elantra(if we ever get it finished). Then i have a trackcross at Summit Point on Nov. 17th. Should have video from all those events along with some photos.

If you do get an ST...enjoy it. They are such an amazing car. If i could do it all over again i would just focus on driving more and stick to the HS class.

Welp last autocross weekend of the year with CDC was a total disaster. Ran one clean run due to an intermittent issue that kept popping up and had 2 other runs that were OC. Didnt even run the 4th run of the day. Here is how it all went down.

I have had a small issue where the car would idle high(1500ish rpm) or surge after an autocross run. Wouldn't happen during spirited driving or on highway use, only after an autocross run, never during. I always checked codes but never had any. Usually a blip of the throttle would clear it up and i kind of attributed it to the heat during the summer.

Finally this past weekend it all came crashing down. First run, turn off ESC, stage at the start, GO! Mid run, my right knee somehow hits the ESC button and the car kills itself. Falls on its face to correct my rotation around a tight 90* right hander. Run ends in a 53.8 time. Not good.

Stage for my second run, GO! Get through the first few turns and then the car falls on its face. ESC is still off, no CEL and no wrench light. Odd. Coast through the rest of the run and go back to the parking lot to see whats up. I cant find anything. Car is running fine but it just had no pedal response.

Third run comes up. ESC off, launch the car, car takes off and i shift into second. Then.....BRICK WALL. Car falls off power so far i nearly hit my helmet on the steering wheel. Wrench light is on, car is missing, no throttle response. Coast off to the side, turn it off. Try to restart it and it wouldnt fire. Turn it off again. Wait a minute, now marshals are asking if the car is ok, i try to turn it back on again and it fires and runs perfectly fine. WTF!

Pull back into the parking lot and a few guys come up and ask whats going on. No clue. Run codes and P2112 comes up as Throttle Actuator Stuck Closed. So looks like my throttle body is coming up as dirty and sticking or the actuator itself is going bad.

So now looking for a new throttle body to stick on it.

Here is a photo of the original throttle body on my Fiesta. Notice any issues? Yep, big ole crack through the plate.

New vs old. Took around an hour to swap the new throttle body on. Took it for a drive and seems to be back to normal.

I wonder if there’s a couple HP in the “optimized” throttle bodies.

From what ive heard, in a measurable sense....no. A ported/"optimized" throttle body might add a bit of throttle response but overall power i don't think would increase since its downstream of the turbocharger.

Well then. This makes me feel a little better about having my son in law total my last ST (with an optimized TB....

Installed the ST200 air box this evening. Not too bad of an install.

Another intake upgrade. Got a smoking deal on a Velossa Tech Gen3 Big Mouth for the FiST. Went with black and a white ring. Should be installing it this weekend.

Huge day yesterday at Summit Point Motorsports Park with the Get Fast Events - Refrigerator Bowl Round 1 & 2. We were on Shennandoah Circuit for trackcross. Car did great in the freezing cold weather. No issues besides lack of traction, especially in the rear. Im very sure my rear sway bar was adding to the loss of traction even with pressures set lower than i usually run.

Stripped the car of all weight i could - spare, jack, trunk lining, laid back seats down, no floor mats,

Pressures were as follows:
Ran 40F/37R for the first run to see how it ran. Was VERY loose in the rear, enough that it scared me on the Karussel so i backed out of it coming off the jump.
Set 39F/35R and went back out. Car was much more planted. Front felt perfect with good traction. Rear was better but still felt a bit loose on off camber corners.
Lowered the rear to 34psi and went for my final run. Car felt even better but still has too much oversteer in the rear. I believe it has too much rear roll stiffness which makes it worse in the cold. Ill keep testing and hope to get a warmer day to see if its any better.

Fastest time in the morning - 43.6 - 29/79 raw times
Fastest time in the afternoon - 48.5 - 37/75 raw times

So 2nd fastest Fiesta ST in the afternoon and fastest in the morning.

Course overview. Ive been tracking at Summit Point quite a bit but this was the first time ive been around the Karussell on Shenandoah. So it was quite the treat in the morning.

Some pics from the bridge from a friend's iphone as i havent found out who was actually taking pictures. When i get some hi-res photos ill update the thread with them.

I didnt get any photos from the afternoon runs but hope the photographer that was there did.

Overall great day at Summit Point with GFE and plan on heading back for at least another round or two.

Still pour one out for the ole FiST that bit the bullet. Sounds like everyone is ok after the crash?
Yeah, he was using it as an Uber driver, pulled out into traffic and got smacked. One of the crumpled zones didn’t, so total loss. I had almost swapped out the Recaros with my current ST’s base seats. Hindsight......

Pics were posted on the event page. All photos are courtesy of Dan Hurwitz of Mach V Motorsports in Sterling Virginia. He owns Mach V and sponsors the GFE Refridgerator Bowl Trackcross events. Huge shout out to him and the crew of GFE on the successful event. I had a blast and i think it went extremely smooth.

If anyone in the DC/MD/NOVA area needs anything race car related - alignments, setup, parts - check out Mach V motorsports. They are big on Subaru platforms but work on just about anything. They also do race car prep and setup.
Shot of the paddock area and people lining up for Heat B(we were in Heat A).

and a little surprise that came to the track. This thing was awesome. I believe it was a stock Festiva with some wheels/sticky tires. It looked like a blast for the owner going around the Karussell. I give him props for bringing it out and i hope to get to talk with him next time about it.

They always would ding me for not having a secure mount(suction cups do not count). Tech would tell me i need some sort of wire to hold onto the camera in case it fell off and since i didnt have one they would make me remove it.

So, I made my own action camera mount using some 3/4" PVC, 3/4" PVC cap and some M5 hardware. Total amount was $8 and about an hours worth of time. Fits perfectly snug to the headrest pegs and once installed should be perfect for autocross/track days.

Materials:
1x M5x40mm cap screw
4x M5 washers
1x M5 nylock nut
1x 3/4" PVC cap
1x 3/4" x 2' long PVC tube

I used a 3/16 drill bit to drill pilot holes and then opened them up with a 1/2 drill bit. The pegs of the headrest are right at 9/16" but since I didnt have a 9/16 bit to finish it, I went and used the 1/2 bit to "hog" the holes out until they fit snug. Now its snug and wont move unless i force it off.

Ill get pics of it installed tonight and a shot of me in the driver seat to see how it will work.

Got it mounted. Came out absolutely perfect.

A close view of the camera looking forward. The fisheye style lens makes it perfect for in-car recording. So very excited to see how this does.

So, big surprise came in the mail yesterday. I need to get them assembled before i show any pictures. BUT! i did get the setup for the trackcross event this weekend at Summit Point. So, onto the pics!

New brake deflector shields installed, new OEM performance pads and a brake flush.

Hoping to get more initial bite with the OE performance pads and that the duct deflectors will help with cooling. The Hawk HPS pads are great but they definitely do not have the initial bite of the factory performance pads.

Trackcross went amazingly good. Car ran flawless. Got a good few videos and will be uploading them today to Youtube. Ill post them up when they are ready.

Changes from last event:
1. Removed rear sway bar
2. Went back to stock Ford performance pads
3. Installed brake air deflectors

Removing the rear sway bar made the biggest difference. Car felt much less twitchy at the limit. Rotation isnt as snap-oversteer as it was before. It felt great on the high speed transitions of Jefferson circuit. Brakes felt absolutely on point. The Hawk pads used to need some heat to get them to bite hard while the OE performance pads("S" labeled pads) are about perfect for this type of event. Huge initial bite but can handle the heat coming from a 90mph straight into a hard left hander(afternoon runs). They exceeded my expectations and i doubt ill use another pad other than the OE "S" pads. I do have the Hawks sitting in a box and another set of Powerstop PST pads that ill probably put up for sale shortly.

The air deflectors....well i didnt bring my temp gun to see brake temps but the pads didnt overheat, pedal stayed firm and nothing fell off. So i guess they worked? No clue until i get some testing results.

Tire pressures i started at 39F/35R and adjusted as they heated up over the 4 runs each session. That seems to be the best medium for the RS-RR's.

Next on the list of things to do...figure out why a P2282 code came up on the drive home. Code is for an air leak between throttle body and intake manifold. Have to check it out this week. I believe i might have not seated one of the evap hose connections when i did the throttle body before. Car runs and drives perfectly fine so its not a big issue.

And finally, i need to install the Velossa Tech intake and my big surprise which ill get to this week. They are going to be a huge grip improvement for next event.
