The problem with spending $10K-$15K is that it's a loss and is not as reliable. We've all seen it. Guy spends tons of money modding a car....and it's never really $10K-$15K. You always end up spending more money. Parts start breaking, etc. I had a 99 Cobra, Paxton blown with supporting mods that I spent money on, loss on mods. I had a 95 Cobra, Vortech blown with full MM suspension that I modded to hell, loss on mods. Had a 95 Cobra R, Vortech blown with supporting mods, again, loss on mods. I had a 90GT with mods, etc. etc.

Let's not forget the people who damage cars, blow motors, etc. modding their cars....what do we tell them....."you play, you pay". What about the people who break things then are looking to take mods off so they can get it fixed for free at the dealership?

Now, because of all that, I keep the cars stock. Intake, exhaust....that's it, not even a pulley anymore. At least the guy who buys the 2020 GT500 can have a car that has a warranty, tested by Ford, etc. He can pull away and how have to worry about breaking halfshafts, blowing transmissions, melting pistons, etc. and if it does happen, he can take the car right in for warranty work. Also, when he sells that car, he's not going to have a $20K terminator, with $20K in mods, that he can't even sell for $18K because buyers will be saying that the car is modded and beat to hell. He'll pay $70K and the depreciation will not be as steep. A 2014 GT500 was a $60K car 5 years ago and it's selling used for around $50K.
I wouldn't hesitate to drive my cobra across the country. I feel it's more reliable than my 90 mustang, and it's got more than twice the hp.

Here's a video I found on a Facebook page.

Cobra is making around 800rwhp with a vmp 2.65

The C7 Z06 is supercharged around 900 rwhp they say.

That cobra owner can row them gears!

That guy is local to me. He definitely isn't afraid to drive his car.

I don't doubt you can drive your car across the county but I'll ask the same question I ask my friends who drive older or modded BMW's. Can your wife confidently drive the car across the country without you? Now, let's assume she can drive stick. If she hit a pothole and damaged something, can the car be taken to the nearest Ford dealership for repair, hundreds of miles away from home?

That's the issue when it comes to the ability to drive the car. You can drive the car because you built it or know enough about it, but can you loan the car to your brother in law, who just knows how to drive a car, and not worry about it leaving him stranded or him running into a problem that only you, or a speed shop, can understand. Will the other person know the nuances of your car that they wouldn't have to deal with if it were a car that wasn't modded or even want to deal with?

There is no ****ing way I’m letting my brother in law Or anyone for that matter, borrow my 80-100k car and even less of a chance of him or anyone driving it if all they know is how to “just drive a car”.

And if my wife for some reason actually wanted to drive this car and smoked a pot hole, you think they will be wheels Ford just keeps on a rack in the back? Gtfoh

The likelihood of any of your scenarios is probably less than 0%.

People borrow $100K and up BMW's, Porsche, Audi's, Mercedes, etc. every minute. What about those soccer moms driving some of those $100K BMW and Mercedes SUVs? All some of them know how to do is drive a car. Shit....the car company will even loan you the cars for a long period of time (lease). The scenarios that I presented happen every second, every day. My wife, brother, father etc. have borrowed my 550 BMW with no issues and I've borrowed family member's 760's with no problem.

On another note, have you seen the sales for those heavily modded Terminators? Nobody wants to buy them. I, and many others, have seen how hard it is just to sell a car that's been changed over to SRA. The same people here that want to mod cars to hell won't want to buy a car with mods. How many times have we all heard the line, "I want it stock because I want to mod it the way I like to"? They won't buy the car or they will try to beat the person down on price.

Times of dealerships having actual mechanics are less and less. Lucky if you find one. They just have part replacers now. Computer told them to replace this and that, how much oil to add, where the oil fliter is at with pictures. Like working for Mcdonalds. Big ass sign on how to make a burger... Good luck. usually comes back with more problems.

Everyone wants shit stock because of trust issues... Would you want to go to a dealership with a rundown building and shady looking people or a dealerships that has 10 million dollar building and people in suits but both sell the same quality cars?

My wife can't drive a manual. If she could, yes. Anyone could hop in my car and drive it. It drives like stock, if not better. I have a centerforce twin disk dyad. The pedal effort is seriously effortless.

The only issue I see, is if they put the pedal to the floor. They would likely wrap it around a tree or something like that.

Miss those days when you're able to floor a car and ass end wants to kick out. Mines dog-legged so it doesn't do that. blow the tires off at 120mph if you want and let go of the steering wheel and stays straight. Rather boring to drive anymore.

That's why I still love this car. Car drives like a stock terminator. Hit the go pedal and you best be respecting the car.

Looks like OP has got a bunch of guys here trying to justify how much like a new GT500 their Terminator is. The bar has been raised and you can mod all year long but in the end it'll still be a 17 year old car trying to live up to it. This new GT500 has totally different DNA from bumper to bumper, the overall sophistication and engineering is generations ahead, and 90% of those that think their Terminator is in the same league won't admit this until (if ever) they drive/own one. In 5 years let's ask those that did.

I have a garage full of Mustangs from a couple of Foxes and up through the various platforms. I dig them all, including my Terminator. I am a diehard Mustang fan and appreciate Ford’s efforts in providing us enthusiasts with better and better vehicles. I enjoy climbing into my 93 Cobra and taking it out for a ride. My stock Terminators could blow my 93 out of the water regarding performance. My 2011 GT500 has better performance yet and the 2020 is simply on a difference performance level than all of my previous year cars. It’s the nature of evolution and improved offerings. I am not one to get into pissing matches with people about mine or yours is better. I am too much of a Mustang fanboy to diss others’ rides. I am a big fan of Terminators and like I said before, I know many have modded their cars and like to challenge others... just be aware of what you are getting into with the 2020. Ford has put a lot of R&D into it and as Mustang enthusiasts, we should all be happy that we haven’t been forced into electric Yugos.
