We also had Boss/Hurricane for the 6.2L that was supposed to replace the modular engines and Godzilla for the new 7.3L. Cyclone and Vulcan V6s

and the Ford GT program was Petunia or something like that hoping nobody would be the person to ask about Project Petunia and it seemed to have worked

I find it interesting that Ford uses codenames for developing engines, Voodoo, Predator, roadrunner, trinity etc. I spent a lot of time looking for the codename for the S/C 5.4L in the 07-08 GT500. finally found the answer in the last couple pages of the book,
Iron Fist, Lead Foot: John Coletti and Ford's "Terminator"
codename was Condor.
Its a great book and a great read. Ford has no Coletti's anymore. Just a group of morons Like Hackett and Farley.

There's still plenty of great people there. They just need the freedom the old SVT group had in order to thrive.
Perhaps they need to revive the SVT division as a skunk works unit. Develop the really wild and hi-perf vehicles. Ford Performance feels... diluted.

But didn't Ford just release the most powerful Mustang ever? Seems to me they still have some game....no?

The engineering part isnt the issue I see Ford having. Its an energetic leadership, with a solid vision of what Ford is and who they can be. Its a Ford Performance division that seems to have lost its swagger.

Ive never seen a more lackluster roll out of the most powerful Mustang ever. Every S197 GT500 improvement was a big deal, in the media the way it was presented to the world, excitement from Ford to show the world what theyve done. 07, 10, 11, 2013: each major revision was great and Ford made sure the public knew it.

The 2020 GT500 was like pulling teeth just to get anything. It felt like an afterthought really. There are so many easy ways to get the message out and yet I feel like we were in the dark for so long about it. On top of the fact that it took 6 model years for it to return. GT350 is a cool car, but its no GT500.

2020 Super Duty is having the same long and drawn out launch, haha Bronco PR is a joke... Its amazing how things have changed in 5 years since Alan retired.

I wouldn't say retired, unless you consider the Stalin method of retirement, damn shame that was

Yah, you make a valid point regarding the marketing machine @ FOMOCO being weak these days, though I'd argue the General has done a less than stellar job of launching their all new flagship perfomrance car...the venerable Chevy Corvette. Tip of the hat to them though for stealing some thunder from the GT500 launch....

I still think that Ford Performance had everything set to roll out the new GT500 much earlier with the early leaks of 720HP to do battle with the 707HP Hellcat, and then suddenly a 797HP Red Eye appeared on the scene and it caught the Ford Performance guys off guard. From that point it required getting a new tune, emissions certs and what ever else had to be done to get the HP up into a more respectable 760HP range against 797HP..........THEN, after all of those hoops were jumped through, the "updated" 2020 GT500 specs started to be released.....but all of this takes time and time slipped by quickly.....

I believe the Ford Performance guys were caught with their drawers down when 797HP hit the street..............and before that time, all efforts had been focused on 707HP as the competition.

As a side note, I absolutely hate the fact that they have applied the ST badge to some heavy ass land yachts. ST's used to have passion and feeling. Now? Yeah, because blazing twisty roads in an Explorer is just as good as a Fiesta... suuuuure.
