I wish I enjoyed something inexpensive, like knitting or something.

Friday I purchased a Traxxas XO-1 RC car. 100mph out of the box. It's a blast. I went through a set of tires on Saturday sliding across the asphalt and doing some controlled drifting.

Today I bought a Traxxas Ultimate Desert Racer, hopefully it's here in the next couple of days! I figured a 4x4 would be a little more fun as it can actually go in the grass/dirt/snow/etc.

I'll get some actual video in the coming weeks.

Who else has played in the electric RC game?

Been there and fade back into it from time to time. It was a hobby I had as a kid and never seem to completely grow out of it. I sold my last setup to @Zemedici and have had the itch to buy something.

I was a nitro or nothing guy, but the new electric powertrains are just plain better: more power, waterproof and the batteries have come a long way.

You'll enjoy off road. Paved stuff is fun, but nothing beats launching one of these things 20' in the air and railing berms with dirt flying everywhere.

They're a deep expensive hobby! Love all the latest stuff thats out though, incredible performance and reliability compared to the old stuff. I'm not in it much anymore, but still have an old school upgraded E-Maxx and Mini E-Revo I break out once in a while.

The newer stuff is so much better than the old days. The 4x4 slash I had recently would bounce off of trees and keep on going. My old Losi XXT, many many years ago, would break something seemingly without any rhyme or reason.

Haha that's what I've seen already.

But, it seems relatively cheap to me compared to the race car hobby haha

I really enjoyed my Traxxas I had years ago (those tires also went fast), but after looking at yours I don't remember it being so expensive, haha. Does look like a lot of fun, though.

RC is a ton of fun. I have had some Traxxas stuff over the years and it is always great to work on them after the break, which is all the time. I have recently switched over from Traxxas to Arrma and man these things rip! They are much more stout and can take a serious bash session. Enjoy the rabbit hole.

I used to be in the RC scene, but preferred the on-track variants. Team Losi/RC 10/Team Associated FTW!

Got my brushless pro boat and a T-maxx that I put a 3.3 in. Haven’t busted it out in forever. But I had a ton of fun with it in the day.
I’d hit kicker ramps in second gear just flying. Bunch of fun.
But I agree with others, electric is the way to go anymore.

My Dad bought me a Traxxas Sledgehammer as my first venture into R/C as a kid. That was like 1992 I believe. The new stuff is just nuts. As a kid I had a Team Associated 1/12 scale pan car that weighed next to nothing with a carbon fiber chassis and a Team Losi XXT 'CR' stadium truck. In college I got the itch to build another and got a nitro HPI Savage 4.6. I'll never forget ripping it around my apartment complex one morning and some girl walking out her door in a night gown asking me to "pleeeeeease turn that thing off." So funny... "Yeah no problem... it's almost out of fuel..." Brrraaaaaaaappppp

I kinda refuse to get one these days because they rarely come in kit form anymore. I used to love to unbox hundreds of pieces, sit down for hours, and build it, then mask and paint the body, do the decals, etc.

rc is an awesome hobby! I’ve been in and out of it since the early 90’s, got into racing off-road back in the mid 90’s, then recently dipped my toes into racing again this past summer, had a blast while doing it, but got out of it when I bought a Harley, I’ll never fully be out of it, I’ll likely pickup another rig to race next year. the Ultimate Desert Racer is a cool ass truck, looks to be a total blast!

OOF....my forte! I have been in the R/C hobby for 20ish years.

My current fleet:
SMT-10 Sport Mod class monster truck
2x retro class Clodbusters
Traxxas Slash 4x4 mod class SCT
Traxxas Slash 2wd mod class SCT
HPI Blitz 2wd mod class SCT
Team Redcat/OFNA SCRT-10 4wd Mod Class SCT
Tamiya TL01 silver can stock class TCS car
3x Tamiya TA02's - 1 stock, 1 HPI graphite and 1 full carbon build
Tamiya M03R mod mini class car
Tamita M05 mod mini class car
Tamiya M06 stock mini class car
Kyosho Blizzard Snow Cat
Tamiya Midnight Pumpkin Chrome Edition(for my son)
Traxxas Stampede VXL
Traxxas Stampede 4x4 mod 4wd truggy build -built this before the truggy craze came about...now its just outclassed by the buggy based trucks.
Tamiya TL01B - mud truck build
HPI Sport 2 touring car - dust collector and trying to get rid of this. terribly unreliable belt driven touring car.
Traxxas Bandit - speed run buggy - 78mph so far but having trouble keeping the front down. its basically stock with a 3s powered castle creations system. going to go full bore with a Factory Works drag chassis when i get time to build it up. Then swap in a 4s system and shoot for 100mph.

My past stuff:
more than i have the space the type out. Everything from TLR, Associated, Traxxas, Tamiya, Serpent....etc.etc.etc. I have a whole hard drive of pictures of my past builds that would take days to go through.

Im sure im missing others. Been a collector and racer for a really long time. My local track has been around since the early 90's and features a good amount of nationals races. We just got the Jconcepts monster truck event coming December 7-8th if anyone is interested. I may enter my retro class trucks if i have the free time to get over there.

I dont have as much time lately as i did before my son was born. I still try to make it once every two to three months to race. Its a great hobby but extremely expensive.
