How much do you tip your detailer?

Just curious. The detailer works for themselves, they're charging me $225 which is reasonable for what they're doing. If it's their company and they named the price, how much if anything would you tip for a quality job?

I would say no. To begin with $225 isn't a great deal for a complete detail. I pay $200 here in CT and everything here is more expensive. My appreciation for their good work is being a return customer. Tipping is just paying more for what u already paid for imo. At $225 the tip is included.

If it was some kid working at a car wash I would maybe tip cause he's making $10 an hour and the owner is making all the profit but the price would have to be much much less to justify it.

When I eat out I always tip at 20-30% cause I know they don't make shit from their regular pay. A private detailer is getting full pay for his service unlike the waitress at $6 an hour.

thats why I said "if anything"

I feel like the price is reasonable knowing the condition of the vehicle. Besides that I've messaged/called several detailers that never even bothered to get back to me and one didn't show. She got back to me and showed up early.

Really I feel like its her business, thats the price shes asking for, thats what she gets unless she ended up doing extra things.

I'm figuring the ceramic coating on the Roush is going to be about 2K or close to it early next year some time.
If I'm in love with the way the car looks, which I know I will, I'll throw him a 20 dollar bill.

$2000 for a ceramic coat? No! My advice, get the car detailed professionally then apply the ceramic coat urself. Its really simple. A full ceramic coat job is about $700-800 around here. Save the $20 bill and put it towards the ceramic coat product.

What the actual ****? 2K? You can do it yourself for less than $200.

NO ****ING WAY!!!!!!

You need to PROPERLY prep the paint for ceramic coating. You ever see the "self doers" with their ceramic coatings on their vehicles?!?!
Low spots and high spots galore. LOL
I'll have the professionals do it. ;) :D

If ur paying $1700 for a basic one coat ceramic coat then ur getting ripped off bro! The prep or detail before is all that really matter. If u don't know how to or don't want to detail it urself then pay $600-700 for a professional detail that does everything but the ceramic coat and apply urself. Wheels and tires add another 4-5 hours of work but I doubt ur doing that.

A $1000 for ur truck sounds about right. Where are u getting $1700-2000 now?

They charge u like a $1000 extra for a product that cost them $30 and maybe 1-2 extra hours of time applying the ceramic coat for 1 coat. All quality ceramic coat products do the exact same thing. The detailer doesn't have some "Special" ceramic coating.

Ur paying for the PREP but they sucker u in with the Ceramic coat as tho its some really expensive product that takes 8-10 hours to apply..... It doesnt! It should be applied over a two day period and it's simple. Again, ceramic coating is cheap (less than $100) and takes no more than 1-2 hours to apply if only doing 1 coat. I apply 3-4 coats to mine so yea takes a little longer.

Applying a ceramic coat is simply wiping it on in small sections one section at a time and waiting for it to dry. Anyone can do it. U need ZERO special skills or training to apply ceramic coat.

I like to hide $10 to $20 in the car with a new detailer. If they give it to me at the end I let them have it for being honest. If it goes missing that’s the last detail.

I agree that me returning is my tip to my wash guy. Sometimes the amount I'm charged is an odd number so I'll throw him an extra 10 spot or something.

I said I was guessing at the cost. Most of the guys on the other Mustang forum are paying anywheres from $1,200 to way more than that. I guess it all depends on where you go? Plus, it depends on the shape of your car, angles and all that good stuff. It takes a little while to fully "prep" the paint. You need to get it squeaky clean and get some of the oils out as well. Some paints are softer, some are harder.
I plan on going to CRAFT DETAILING. Check out this 2017 Silverado. NASTY!!
