The police should have considered the level of violence from the perp, and responded accordingly.

In this case, it was an excess use of force to apprehend someone who committed a lesser crime. Destroying the house was completely unnecessary and damn straight the Police/Town should've paid for the whatever Insurance didn't cover.

Take a look at the before and after. Seems like the homeowner was paid to rebuild his home by insurance. It appears, and is the city's view, the homeowner decided to not rebuild the same/similar home but a much bigger and more custom home. I agree the homeowner should be made whole, but he shouldn't get a 2x nicer home in both size and finishes.

I should've mentioned

The home should be made whole, meaning replace what was destroyed. I definitely don't think the HO should get a Ferrari when the police shot up his Cadi.

Do you not have car insurance because your car is paid off?
I think insurance is the biggest scam perpetrated on Americans, and has become a hindrance in Americans ability to build wealth. If state law didn't require car insurance, I would drop it.

I'm starting to change my tune to this story too... Homeowner was paid $345k from his insurance company, but I'm still not clear if that was or was not enough money to rebuild his home. I can say, without a doubt, that the homeowner decided to do some upgrades. Now, were those upgrades $200k...I'm not sure, but definitely an upgrade

Thankfully it is a state law. It's there primarily, as seen by minimum requirement by law to have liability insurance, to protect the not at fault parties in accidents.

And ever since then insurance rates have gone through the roof. Also now lawyers are involved in even the smallest of accidents and drive up the cost of each claim. The law needs to require a loser pay system that make the people bringing frivolous lawsuits pay when they lose. Also insurance sets the rates of auto body repair. Now a simple scuffed bumper cost $2k to repair instead of a few hundred bucks. I look at what I have shelled out in insurance in the last 20 years compared to what they paid out, and I could easily have self insured many times over.

I've seen dozens of people get completely screwed not having insurance. When the car gets wrecked most of the time it is a lost cause and the owners are out thousands of dollars and a car they likely still owe on. I had a foreign couple who had just bought a BMW 335 the night before and wrecked it that night and they didnt have insurance. Ended up paying $22k cash out if pocket in order to fix it. If they had an insurance policy set up then they would have paid about $1000 at most. Insurance will save your ass when you need it, but the reason it works is because most people dont end up needing it.

did you actually read the story before spouting off with your drivel? The mother****er had a 19 hour shootout with the police. Since he only shoplifted then even though he was shooting the police should have only considered the guy shoplifted and ignore the shooting because his initial crime wasn’t significant enough?
Dumb post on your part and I am disappointed in you.

Actually my other post is probably more reflective of what I think. My original post, not so much.

The home owner tried to leverage the situation to his benefit, then cried when it failed. I don't agree with his/her moves. So I agree with you pretty much. I can edit my old post for posterity if you'd like.

All good brother. This is just a lively topic of discussion. Neither of us are right all of the time and none of us are wrong all the time. Its a conundrum to figure which side we fall on.

You should come meet my wife and I. We can kill both of those birds (people you don’t believe exist) with one stone.

Very unfortunate for the homeowner for sure and I hope somehow they recover their loss but I would like to stress this; the bad guy was a shoplifter until he ran into a stranger’s house with weapons and began firing at law enforcement. He was no longer a shoplifter, he was then an armed joke invader with attempt to murder of law enforcement officials and a great danger to the society.

I hear people always say “he tazed him for shoplifting? Or panhandling? Or loitering?” Nope, they were tazed because of resisting or assault on an officer which Evolved from the initial offense.

Anywys, I feel bad for this home owner and hope they get their money

I don't know if it's a hinderance to building wealth, but I do believe it's comparable to legalized extortion when it's written into law.
