Im looking at a Cobra R spoiler and Borla side exhaust in particularly and im wondering if the spoiler should have a VIN stamped on it to distinguish it from the FRPP ones they sold or if they're the same. Also, did Borla ever sell the side exhaust to the public?

If I remember correct Borla did offer that kit to the public. I don't know if it was different from what came on the 00R or not. Pretty sure it was not different but that was 20 years ago haha

I thought i remembered a cobra r style exhaust being offered but wasnt sure if it was steeda or not. Like you said, its been a while since the majority of this stuff was readily available.

I read every thread i could find via google search about if the vin is stamped on the parts or not and couldnt find anything. Thats what im mainly interested in finding out. Thanks for the response

If it was on the wing, I would say it would be on the bottom of the pedestal where it would not be seen while on the car. If you haven't seen before, the non-R cars have the VIN on most of the body panels with a white sticker type thing.

I’m not at home to look at mine to confirm, but there is no VIN on any of those pieces that I recall seeing. When you say “spoiler,” are you referring to the rear wing or the front removable chin spoiler? The chin spoiler has a Ford part info in the casting that you’ll see unless it was sanded off/filled over. There is nothing on the rear wing that I have seen. The side exhaust has no markings on it that I recall seeing, but I haven’t been under my R in quite some time.

It has a ford part number stamped on the pedestal like you're referring to. I just wasn't sure if it would have the VIN stamped on it in similar fashion to distinguish one that originally came of a R car for the FRPP part sold to public because from what I have always read, some parts wouldn't be replaced until you proved they were original and damaged (what truth there is behind that, I don't know). I'll see if it has a sticker with a VIN on it but that has yet to be pictured so I'm going to assume it does not.

Bassani is the "holy grail" supplier of the after market side exit exhaust for the 2000R. Took me YEARS to find one. The irony is Bassani supplied the X pipe, but Borla supplied the "cat back" part of the exhaust.

I thought i remembered a cobra r style exhaust being offered but wasnt sure if it was steeda or not.

On the 2000R, it’s really only three unique body parts - the wing, hood, and splitter, all of which were available at the time for a few years in the Ford Motorsport catalog.

The rear bumper is from a V6 without the exhaust cutouts, and the front bumper is a stock 99 with a few holes cut out for the front splitter and dzus fasteners.

What the others said.... the parts were available for purchase and did not have the VIN stamped anywhere, just Ford part numbers if you purchased original Ford parts. You could have bought the wing, splitter, seats, door handles already painted, hood, wheels, exhaust, etc.... only thing that would have been tough to source is the motor and components there in. Those engines were unique to the 00R. Hi n fact, Ford didn’t make a “regular” Cobra for the 2000 model year so they could concentrate on this beast.

Actually there was a 2000 Cobra made, it was for export only to Japan and Australia.

also, another reason for no US cobra was the 99 Cobra horsepower fiasco, they were still dealing with the recall well into 2000.

I have a US 2000 cobra brochure that shows the car in two new colors, Aztec Gold, and a light blue color, and the R is the center of the brochure.

There was a gap in Mustang Cobras in both 2000 as well as 2002. 2000 was due to the 99 recall and 02 was due to the Terminator not being ready yet. The few that were made are often confused between 2000 and 2002... I had to look it up again to confirm. No 2000 Mustang Cobras were made. 100 2002 models were made and shipped to Australia. They are easily identified by the extra lights on the front bumper.

Right had drive might be a tip off also

Funny! :D

Yes, right hand drive would definitely be a tip off!

I used to live in Japan and bounce back to the States occasionally. I can’t tell you how many times I opened the wrong side door to get in the car!

Actually Goose, I did see some 2000 cobras for export, to japan, back in 2000.

Started going out to Dearborn many times in the late 90’s early 2000’s for car shows, the SVT Experience, stampede to Dearborn, Woodward dream cruise, and the 2003 Ford 100th anniversary show.

It’s only a 13 hour ride for me :)
