The time to replace our aging 2011 Fusion is quickly approaching.
I’ve decided I want to step up into something more on the luxury side. Not specifically a luxury brand, but something really nice. My commute can be up to 2 1/2 hours so I’d really like the interior to be a place I really like spending time.
So, I had it narrowed down to a couple of cars one of which was the Genesis G70 like what cobrabob recently got and really likes, then, for shits and giggles I drove a used Panamera and absolutely loved it. It checks every single block plus a few I didn’t know about. It has instantly moved to the top of the list and I’d like to get SVTP’s take on the Panamera and p-cars in general from the few here that have/had them. I was eyeing a 911 when I was waiting to see if I was going to get my GT350 back in early 2017.
I know that the maintenance is higher, and general ownership is more expensive, but I do firmly believe that you get what you pay for.
Thanks in advance.

2.5 hour commute each way? Jesus.

Three completely different options:

E63

Ram 1500 Limited

Taycan

ETA: Just get a helicopter for your monster commute.

P-cars on the whole are awesome. The Panamera is quite polarizing, though, when it comes to opinions, mainly due to the look.

Myself, I think they can be made to look quite good. But, with just factory equipment on them......bleh. I'd choose something else.

Well I know precisely nothing about either of the cars you speak of.

But for long range comfort you simply can't beat a yuk/tahoe. Mine does about 22mpg just cruising.(IMO)

Howevah if its a car you seek(which kinda looks like it) Id say CTS-V or an "SS" if you can find one.

One of the things you mentioned was COO(cost of ownership) in my experience, my level of happy with the car is a direct correlation to those hidden/unexpected costs. They will happen with anu brand, but the costs can be prohibitive in the marquee brands.

Those pan ams though Ive always like the way they look.

Far more reliable and far cheaper to maintain than the Porsche. Sure, the grill is subjective, but this car is all Luxury. F-Sport versions are a little firmer, but sill luxury. Look at the prices on them for sale and its a really good bargain.

I have an hour commute each way currently, and while I love my 19 ram, the gas bill adds up. I’m looking into Tesla’s to commute in.

Be warned maintenance costs are ridiculous on Porsche cars. The V8 Panamera requires spark plug changes every 30k miles. Also this is what it takes to replace an air filter on one:

We did extensive maintenance on that car, labor times are idiotic too. Don’t get me wrong I’m probably the biggest Porsche nut on this forum, but the maintenance costs on them is unbelievable. In terms of driving experience I don’t think you can beat a Porsche, love every single one I drive. Our Slantnose is my all time favorite car. I get the unique sensation of being excited and terrified at the same time. It’s nowhere close to being stock so maybe that’s why.
I agree with Lexus tech, if you want a more luxurious dependable daily get a Lexus. I tell everyone stay away from Europe unless you get it under warranty then sell it immediately after it expires, or you have deep pockets and want to spend money.

Pick your poison.

My dad has a Panamera GTS with the V8. It is a very fun car to drive. It's needed a few things but it was under warranty so no big deal. But if it was me and I had your commute and I didn't need 4x4 I would get that Lexus LS. Super quiet, Massaging seats, extremely comfortable, Reliable, reasonable on gas.
If I needed a 4x4 well I love my 2019 F150 Platinum

With a commute that long I would look into vehicles with driving aids like lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control etc to make your drive more pleasurable.

The kia stinger and genesis g70 are both great options. If you want to save some money and dont care about luxury brand or standing out the 18+ accord's are very nice especially in touring form. I think a new touring model could be had for low to mid 30s, great fuel mileage, features, and the reliability has been phenomenal.

That's absolutely retarded. The Germans might think they're good engineering but this level of disassembly to replace an air filter, in my book, is failed engineering.

I believe the 992 gen 911 requires the bumper to come off for the air filter too. I worked for a German company for a while. The over-engineering philosophy is a thing to behold.

While not cutting edge in the lux department, I have an Infiniti sedan that is a nice comfy ride. I believe they have good reliability which might be in the mix given your long assed commute.

While the commute is 2 1/2 hours, it’s only done once a week so I’m not putting 50k miles on it a year or anything like that.
Also, did you know I was a heli pilot when you made the helicopter for the commute comment? If not, that’s pretty funny.

Call me crazy, but I’ve always liked the way they look.
I would love to see styling options for the exterior though.

Ah, ok. That's 1% better. I have a coworker who does similar to you. He's working on moving 2.5 hours away and transferring, but not yet. He's having a house built up there, and his family has already moved up there in an apartment for the time being. During the work week, he stays here in town at a family member's house...and then a 2.5 hour drive home for the weekend.

I would take a look at a Jeep SRT--absolutely awesome daily driver, but not so great on gas and maintenance costs. But, since you're eyeing a panamera, it doesn't seem like you are that concerned with operating costs.

I currently daily drive a M3. It's...meh. It does everything well, but nothing great. I should have sucked up the operating costs and kept the SRT.

That's absolutely retarded. The Germans might think they're good engineering but this level of disassembly to replace an air filter, in my book, is failed engineering.

The filter scheduled replacement interval is every 40k miles. It also looks like people can DIY in roughly an hour with a filter cost less than $100.

Lexus 460

Infiniti Q50S Red sport.

The Genesis also look good too.
