I actually only drove OTR for about half a year. I wanted a change of pace and wanted to see the country. Ended up working for USA Truck and quickly hated it. Went back to industrial work shortly thereafter only because of that.

My favorite part was when he changed gears.

You have to love those old DDs. Sounds like its revving to the moon and just turning 2,000RPM.

I installed one of these along with an sm465 into an 84 diesel k5 blazer. It was ****ing awesome and I desperately want to convert something else i own. I miss driving that thing.

Advance adapters makes it... ran about $1350 10 years ago when i did mine. Allows you to split every gear and also gives a .75 OD gear making the old granny 4 speeds tolerable on the highway.

Not jacking the thread but...
I'm in charge of the DOT for one day.
1st thing I do is make it illegal for any Tractor Trailer rig or Motor Home of any size to drive in the Left Lane on any Interstate.
Get caught 1st time is $1000 fine and loss your CDL/DL for 30-days.
2nd time $5000 / 120-days.
3rd time $10K and 1-year.

Rowing those gears was way cool though.

Amen to that. Actually, that law is one of the only good things about Commie CA.

When i was working in CO, it infuriated me to see 18 wheelers in the "fast" lane.

Down in my area they will roll side by side on a 2 lane highway and pace each other

Lol, when we where going faster and the cars were following me. I have a story from way back, but need to go bed.
If I had to list the top 5 best sounding engines of all time a 2 stroke Detroit diesel would be on that list.
True story.

there's signs all over here that say no trucks in left lane on the three lane highways. catch the wrong trooper on the wrong day in the wrong area and you're going to get hammered.

If you see a Swift truck approaching you from the rear, just go ahead and run off the road and into a tree.

this made me lol. It's pretty much truth for any of the super large trucking companies, as long as there's an ass to put in the seat doesn't matter to them.

@gimmie11s Ain't nothing changed. I only know a few guys (my old man specifically) that I would let stay in the left lane because they're keeping pace or running faster than traffic. Other than that, overloaded gravel haulers on Hwy 85 (and I can't stress this enough) think playing nhra with another gravel hauler that's overloaded is fun to them. Meanwhile traffics backed up for a mile or two and inhaling loose gravel that's being kicked up.

If CSP here in CO would hang out on 85 between the I-76 connection all the way north towards Platteville, I can only imagine the amount of revenue that would be made due to fines for left lane violations and unsafe vehicles that 90% of those guys run

Wow, really?? I was under the impression running in the left lane was LEGAL in CO based on how often i saw truckers do it (every day, literally).

They would be ALL OVER the 25 north and south all the way to down town.

Drove me crazy.

It's posted along every highway I believe that unless passing stay right. Seeing the amount of congestion due to population increase it's certainly worse now than its ever been for those guys to be riding it like they do. And the part that gets me is the amount of traffic lights along Hwy 85 that unless you absolutely gotta move into the left lane (for accident or getting into a turn lane) then there's no need for them to be there

CSP seems to hold more inspections between 136th and 144th on I-76 than any other highway/interstate. I don't know if that's due to Transwest being in Brighton now?
