Well, I got a lead on a 33 5 window coupe. All original Ford steel body/frame. No patch panels, solid car. Choptop, flathead Merc. 50's Hotrod style. Has my ears perked up.
Original body/frame cars are scarce. I've seen basket case cars like this for 25k. This one is solid as a rock & complete.

37 ford coupe, 351c with MPI EFI. Plan to add 18s in the front instead of the current 17s.View attachment 1605911 View attachment 1605912

One thing to keep in mind is the pre -1935 cars are pretty small so if you re a larger guy they can suck to drive. My father has a 31 coupe so I've experienced it.

What intake setup is that? I have a 351c going in my 56.

Thanks that's an older pic, I spent some time cleaning up the engine bay/detailing it and it's a little better. The goal was to have it looking like a Stock boss 351, unfortunately accessories make it hard to do in the little package. I have no room up front on the engine.

Originally I was running a foxbody 5.0 system/harness, intake elbow with fox throttle body, 460 distributor and quarterhorse chip. The setup evolved over the years when I found a massflo throttle body and maf which is what is pictured. The last revision was ditching the maf and ford ecm and putting a megasquirt pnp in its place.

The megasquirt has been awesome and has improved driveability a ton. I also changed my cam along the way while being EFI, originally I was running a 224/232 on a 110LSA, swapping to a 224/232 on a 114LSA helped a bunch too. The car runs a T5z that I converted to midshift, so being a manual transmission tuning needs to be good to prevent bucking.

I've tried to make the car more of a driver it has A/C, overdrive, EFI, cruise control, 4 wheel power disc brakes.

Cool Cobra, how about an update, where are you in your hunt for a street rod?
Knowing your standard of perfection it narrows down the potential applicants, or are you considering a less than perfect car that you can then perfect?

Thanks for the kind words!
Actually I bought the '33 5 window I found. Some details in post #22.
It was fully functioning then down for chop top, rearend in process of swapping to a quick change.
I'm trying to arrange shipping now.
I've found a shop to cut glass/garnish moldings locally. Once I get it in my garage I'll decide if I want to leave the banjo rear for the rake, or lower it down some & go with a quick change rear.
Mercury flathead, Isky cam, Fenton headers, twin 97's. All the good stuff.
It's set up hot rod style vs street rod. Once I get it home, I'll decide which direction I want to go.
I'll add pics here, trying to get it shipped currently.

Thanks for the history and information on your setup. How is the braking with the 4 wheel discs? Hows the handling/suspension?

Great thread!

I want a hot rod some day too... Although I'd be happy to have a Chevy powertrain unless it happens to have a Coyote or some Cobra/GT500 variant.

Braking is good but I still need to play with it. After years of the car being together and brakes just being ok I looked at the system and since your master cylinder mounts backwards the brake lines must be reversed. I swapped them and that made a big difference but I need to play with the adjustable proportioning valve some more. It's running v6 s197 brakes up front and explorer disc in the back (torque thrust 17s won't clear the gt brakes.)

Handling is surprisingly good for what it is, it's mustang 2 front suspension and 9inch rear with leaf springs. I had to remove the rear sway bar because the pinion was rubbing it.
