I grew up riding around in 60’s muscle cars, but never owned one.

I’ve owned a pristine Foxbody, and a Terminator. Enjoyed, but sold, both.

I would like the next car to have these attributes...

small block Ford

Probably pushrod and carbureted, just so it can have a cam that will scare women, small children, and their squeamish pets. This is paramount in my mind. It won’t get raced. Won’t be a daily driver. It needs to have that “chop". It will sit in the garage more than it should.

Over 35 years old, or a kit, so I am not beholden to emissions equipment requirements in my state (NC). This is somewhat of a PITA, I know.

Comfortable enough that I can get my 6’3” 220lbs carcass in and out of it.

Can it be done for under $50K, without buying a 55 year old car?

What say ye?

60 something Caddy Hearse...502 crate...I know you said small block but cmon... a black hearse with a 502 and proper cam will scare everyone
I forgot to add the caveat. “Fit in my garage”, although a 2017 F150 SCrew fits now, and will sit in the drive later.

On classics condition and rarity are everything. If the car is restored was it a quality restoration or a, get it done quick and cheap type restoration. I’ve seen both and the prices show it. If you want a good condition fastback Mustang you’ll pay for it; if you want a Coupe then you’ll have some wiggle room. If you want a Cougar, Torino, Cyclone, or Falcon you can get them pretty reasonably if Small blocks. The big body cars can be had at good prices in my opinion but you can tell they’re big cars when they’re small blocks. I know, comparing my SS to the T/A is a night and day difference in performance. One is very torquey and nimble compared to the big car. On the other hand the big car has a much nicer ride. Ultimately you need to decide on the year and model you want then we can help you better.

Pick your poison.

FF has a gen III Daytona Coupe that I am seriously interested in, but done right they are $65K plus, and I honestly don’t want to build one. They might show up on the secondary market in a few years but thus far they are looking like $65K plus to buy any decent example. The Gen III is totally redesigned and has a larger cabin/cockpit/whatever than the Gen II and Gen I versions.

70k+ for a decent Pantera. 50k might not be totally unrealistic if you are veeery savvy at finding the right deals at the right time

The only thing that could be better, would be a 1956 IH TravelAll, because my dad worked for them and drove one, but it would be unobtanium.
