Anecdotal because it comes from our shop.
Audi: Cam phasers, timing chains, cam adjusters, coils, coolant leaks, oil leaks, plugged secondary air passages(requires engine removal on some cars), antenna modules, CAN line issues.
Lexus: Ball joints on SUVs.

Audi all the way! We’re going to be buying our 3rd Q5. Isn’t Lexus made by Toyota?
Two completely separate classes. All you see on the Europe Autobahn are Audi’s, Mercedes, BMW, and VW’s.You won’t regret the Audi. Lexus would fall apart at 100+ cruising speed.

The Autobahn is in Germany, of course you're going to see mostly German cars on it. I'm no Japanese car nut-swinger, but I would say Toyota is probably the last manufacture of the bunch to pick on the quality of. Toyota/Lexus is consistently rated as one of the highest in quality, if not the highest.

^^^ I agree with this. I have a '99 Corolla with a 3 speed automatic for a beater / commuter car. Every single thing works perfectly fine on that car. I cruise 80-85 mph on the highway twice a day and it just buzzes right along.

I see countless other 90's Toyotas every day driving to and from work.

I can't even tell you what a '99 Audi looks like... I haven't seen one in decades. I see plenty of new ones every day though. Go figure.

I had a 2012 S5 Prestige, manual with the V8. I absolutely loved the car, and it drove incredible. I did the oil changes myself for around $120, I believe the dealer wanted $300~ for it. The B&O speakers started making static/distortion noises in the passenger door periodically, but then would go away (some days it was fine, others awful). The clutch was starting to go out, and I didn't want to even ask a shop what the price tag would have been for that, so I got rid of it. Toyota's reliability is top notch, and the IS350 is your best bet. If I were to choose, I'd take an IS350 over an A4 due to the cost of maintenance and reliability.

lol this is retarded, audi would fall apart period.

Like I said, my brother is in the dealership industry and no other manufacturer has the most OP codes except Audi. OP codes are codes for different issues and problems. The fewest in the industry are Toyota and Lexus.

OP, if you're looking for something luxurious, reliable, has nice interior and great resale value the lexus is a great choice.

fwiw: I dont own a toyota, my accord is the only japanese vehicle i currently own.

Lexus 350 all day every day. Especially if you are going to be putting 15-20K on a year.

audi has better performance and luxury but the day you run out of warranty would be the day i would get rid of it.

Lexus you can whip for 250-300k miles with simple maintenance.

I may be a bit late and a bit biased here... but Lexus. Every day of the week. And its not even close. Except for the IS250. Run FAR from those. If it were an IS, go IS350

IS350 2014+ comes with the 8 speed auto. Also consider the GS350 F-Sport. But If were being serious here, IS-F will be a hell of a Swift kick in the pants. They are the older generation, but the car is simply fantastic. Best F performance car we have built so far.

To be fair, we are having some AC servo motor issues in the hot climate states like AZ, Nevada and parts of SoCal. Not a big issue if you get a certified. and if you buy one simply used, a call to 1-800-25LEXUS will usually resolve any quality issue you have on a reasonably late model vehicle. IS-F has no real issues I can think of at all.

I spent three years (2010-2013) running all over Germany at over 100 mph in a 4runner. I lived right off the A6. Sold it in 2017 and it had never spent a night in the shop. I'm sure a lexus would be just fine.
I've never owned an Audi, but I do believe it would be more fun.

I’d go with the Audi considering the number of miles you’re planning on driving every year. Although it’s a little more risky ($$) of a purchase than the Lexus, it’s a better car.

Audi is junk, get the Lexus.
My opinion is based on the following.
Worked for VW & Audi.
1.My brand new VW GTI had to be Lemon lawed
2. MIL Passat was always in the shop.
3. Dad's Q7 had to be bought back from the Manufacturer
4. The A8 he replaced it with was in the shop more than on the road.
5. My brothers A4 with 14k miles needed an engine replaced.

German cars= Junk. Though I do want a 911s. Come to think of it, everyone I've known with a Porsche has loved it and has had very few problems

Edit.
#6. My SIL's Jetta had to be bought back because it was in the sop too much so she got a TDI Passat which had to be..........................................well, you can figure it out.

It’s going to be a daily driver, and currently I put on 15-20k miles a year. So I want to be comfortable, don’t need anything fast or super good handling.
LEXUS all the way then.
I would LOVE to say Audi as I think it would be way more fun, but the Lexus is what you're after.

Good luck!

There you go from a lexustech. Nothing better than a tech that likes the cars he works on. I wonder if he feels the same if he worked at a german dealership... LOL

guess im a glutton for punishment, I want to replace my accord with a c43 amg, plan to get one thats still under warranty. maybe even extend the warranty. I want something that is nice, has decent power (385hp), and gets good mpg (almost 30mpg highway).

I like what we work on but the maintenance cost is ridiculous on some of the cars.

Lexus.

After much research I bought an '07 GS350 to DD. It had 100k miles when I purchased the car in Aug of 2017, and have 165k on it now. I was skeptical, but aside from oil changes, it's only needed brake pads and a new battery. Also, they don't fall apart at 100 mph -- that is nonsense. I'd buy another Lex in a heartbeat.

Lexus infotainment is definitely behind the Germans -- as are most Asian and American brands. If that's a deal breaker, lease a new Audi, they are cool cars. I wouldn't recommend buying a pre-owned one though. A close friend of mine bought a used A4. He got rid of it recently and vowed to never own another one.

Lexus, no doubt about it. Try to find a IS350, the V6 is proven to be a very stout and reliable motor. The iS250 has a boat anchor for an engine.
