Ford should have made the 4v Modular a standard engine in the Mustang GT

Yes, I've said the same thing forever. The 3V 4.6 should never been the Mustang GT's engine either.

Remember how overhead cam engines were supposed to have a higher specific output than pushrod engines? Well in 98, the LS1 made way more power per cubic inch than the 2V and only in 99 did Ford get the 4.6 to make the same specific output of the SS/TA F-bodies.

4.6 vs 5.7. The 4.6 4v was right there with them.

I will say I'm not so blind as to think Ford in the early 00's had excellent build quality, but I do think to some extent there was a passion in the specialty lineup that is going away in current year. I don't think John Coletti would have ever released the Edge ST like it is. The fusion sport was a hyped up let down as well, you can find a 2 year old model for about 17-20 grand now when they were cresting 40 grand new.

I bought my mustang because this was the only thing I could get from Ford with a V8 and a stick. Honestly if they offered the fusion sport with a 6spd manual I would have seriously considered it for a daily.

Dodge is clearly doing something right since they're having really strong sales numbers by shoving more power and more trim levels into an archaic chassis.

Here/there/some other silly place
They did it was a 3.4L v8. Maybe came from the jag division

No it was a pregnant 3.0L Vulcan V6 block (extra 2 piggyback cyls added to make it a V8) then the top part (cams, intake, and valvetrain and heads) was mfg by Yamaha and added by them at their one plant (forgot which one) in Japan before being reshipped back to the Taurus plant to be installed in the SHO's. in fact all the pre ecoboost SHO's engines was made like this where they was shipped to Japan, Yamaha put their stuff on and then ship it back to Ford.

Found a pic of my 95 SHO from back in that day with the Yamaha 24V. Owned it for 2 years. It was the last year before Ford ended using that body style SHO. That engine and the SHO was great top end highway runner. In the background there is my 91 Escort GT. I owned so many Fords in the 80's, 90's and 00's its hard to count. They were all fun though. My 95 F150 Lightning is sitting in the garage but I have no pics of that around.

As long as you replaced the spark plugs with the current spec and torqued to 26ft lbs and replaced the intake manifold with current non leaking version they are. My dad has 220k+ on his and still going strong.

Got a 2003 5.4 2v with almost 160k. Normal maintenance, oil change every 5k using mobil 1 EP synthetic high mileage. Spark plugs done at 109k prolly due for another sticking with ford oem. And a K&N air filter clean every 10k. Fuel filter every 30k with motorcraft.

Nostalgia is really all Dodge has...my buddies just gotta 19 Ram...nice truck, rides great, even looks good...but its broke often...unlike my 95k mile 2015 F150
That’s not every dodge and ford has its share of issues. Every manufacturer does really. 25k on my ram and it’s been flawless. I look forward to running it hard for many more just like I’ve done with previous Ford and Toyota trucks

I think it really comes down to build quality. Absolutely some of the ford trucks and cars are the best looking in their class. Interiors are well designed. Tech packages are relatively even with everyone else, and in some cases.. but..

Then you start to peruse the lots and see how incredibly packed service departments are for a whole host of problems. Ford is shooting themselves in the foot by releasing sub par build quality with a price tag that demands longevity. They absolutely had better years where build quality, pricing, availability, and longevity all aligned better. 2003/4 was arguably their best year between trucks, cars, performance cars, and everything else. Still a lot of those years of Fords rolling around today. Meanwhile 05-08 anything are pretty much MIA on the roads here.
