Im very curious to see what Weber does to make their unit stand out from what's already out there other than charge more than everyone else

If you can; spring for a ceramic smoker like a egg, Kamado joe, etc.

I love my Big Green Egg. I think they're the more versatile option. I actually have the Large and the Mini-Max. It's a little more involved because you have to maintain the fire yourself by adjusting the vents but once you get it dialed in, it really doesn't fluctuate as long as you keep the lid closed. I also bought a wifi controller for it if I feel like being lazy.

Weber has a pellet smoker coming out early 2020. Taking a wait n see approach on on how that one is received.

I can only assume that it will be a quality piece but probably over priced compared to a treagar. Weber thinks very highly of weber and it shows. People will still buy it though because weber made it and that's all the validation they need.

personally I haven’t felt that Weber was any better then other grills I’ve owned in recent years so for me it’s likely not worth the wait.

I may just pick up a Traeger pro 575 with the new wifi set up controller and see how it goes. I generally only cook for the wife and myself, occasionally a couple friends so I shouldn’t need the extra space and at under 800 that’s not a hateful price.

if I really get into this and enjoy it I can pick up another dedicated smoker later on.

To each his own but after getting into BBQ (low and slow NOT grilling) 5 years ago I would only use a pellet grill if someone gave it to me. As far as I am concerned they are all overpriced. I have friends and family who own various brands of pellet grills nearly all of them prefer the food I cook on my pit barrel or weber kettle.

I say this because no matter how hard those manufacturers try their flavored pellets will never be as good as real wood smoldered using charcoal. I've done stuff literally side by side and almost everyone preferred pit barrel ribs over those from a traeger.

I could go on and on with the why's and why nots of a UDS over a traeger but it all boils down to personal preference and what you want your BBQ experience from beginning to end to be.

Happy BBQ.

Honestly, I've never heard of Traeger up until today.

Not sure I can justify spending that kind of money on a grill. I have a Charbroil that I've had for about 6 years that works amazing, does a great job and never required maintenance. Only thing I've replaced are the drip pans.

i don’t disagree, I haven’t used a pellet grill yet but I have used big green eggs and similar smokers at friends houses. They definitely make top notch food but it is a time consuming process.

the allure of the pellet grill (based on what I read and hear) is far better flavor then gas grill and still very easy to use. Plus with WiFi equipment now it’s almost a set it and forget it cooking solution.

I’ll be sure to post up what I get and give it a review, I’m shopping Traeger and Rec Tec currently so it’ll likely be between the two.

This is my exact reason for wanting to get a pellet grill.

As much as I would like to, I just rarely ever have hours free to babysit a smoker

I have a big green egg too, love it! Though I am looking into other options for cooking large quantities of meat.

We have a medium sized Traeger we bought at Costco about 4 years ago. We love it. We bought my son the wifi enabled big one. He loves it too. He likes being able to check the temp remotely or start and stop it when he isn't nearby.

I've had a cookshack smokette going on 11 years of so, never had problem 1 with it.

Really nice thing about the CD is you're not locked into pellets, you use wood chunks you find in the woods. I had some wood floors redone a couple of years ago, and have been using the non-varnished oak cutoff pieces.

One piece a little bigger than a cassette tape lasts 4 hours.

Set the temperature and timer (some have this feature) and come back in 4.

Ribs dry rubbed, and smoke for 5 hours.

Dry rub salmon, 1.5 hours.

Drawback is it won't grill.

yea the appeal of the pellet ones I’m looking at is crank the temp up and sear to finish the meat off. I still have a glass grill but from everything I’m reading I’ll likely retire it.

They have 750 watt elements and will get to 300 degrees.

I use a temperature probe and do all my Prime rib roasts in it now.

Sear on the gas grill and into the smoker.

300 Degrees for 3 hours or so, depending.

Remove at 119 degrees internal.

Could you guys throw up some links to some of these suggestions or what y’all have. I’m intrigued, and will need a new one in a few years.

Check out the Rec Tec one I put a link up for. From what I've read, it seems like the people that have first hand experience with the Rec Tec and Traeger have liked the RT more....better build quality and incredible customer support

We have a high end built in gas grill in our outdoor kitchen. It works fine for what we need IMO. Wife then went and bought the best Traeger on a whim just because she could. Personally I think it is a complete waste of money. Had it two years and it seems like we have had constant issues. I expect she will donate it to the church auction and I will see the new Weber delivered next spring.
