1-2 shift.
Stance.
Typical to most mustangs, rear end needs attention, especially if you put decent rubber on. Seems to be very jumpy and unpredictable. My 500whp cobra swapped 00gt with mm lca’s and r888’s was a fun and easy to pedal around. This seems to have lots of lateral movement in the rear. Definitely need upper with mount and lowers on these cars or stay with stock like rubber. I could see this being a nightmare with radials or even r888’s.

But coming from a new edge this thing is a lot more comfortable, and at 6’2” seems to have a lot more room.

I just came from a 1600km round trip and this is the only vehicle, on this specific trip, I’ve been able to drive and not need a physiotherapist appointment at my destination.

I wish the entertainment system would show song title/artist when playing through Bluetooth

I'm currently in a toss up, I'm between the 11/12 GT500 and a 16-18 Camaro SS.

Well, if you are into dudes the Camaro is the easy choice.

In all seriousness, not even close. If you like the ability to easily make big power, want tremendous aftermarket and tuner support, by far the largest enthusiast community, etc etc go with gt500 (or mustang GT). If you do not like these things go Camaro.

Whats up guys!

I'm in the market currently for an 11/12 GT500, and am curious for those of you who own them, what do you hate about them?

For example. Prior to owning my terminator I thought there wasn't going to be a single thing I didn't like it about it (I mean, I come from the Subaru STI world, and considering all EJ motors want to do is explode anything else would be a blessing..)

Then I discovered that some people were on their um-teenth alternator and already had their next one sitting on the shelf ready.. the IRS is basically made of glass and if you blow on it the wrong way it shatters into oblivion.. and god forbid you try to put in a new headunit without tearing out the ENTIRE sound system and replacing everything to make it sound any better..

So what are the common issues with the GT500s that aggravate you all that own them?
Honestly, the factory synchros in the transmission are the most annoying thing with the majority of Shelbys. If you race your car, the first thing you'll want to is have your transmission overhauled with Tremec Hybrid TR6060 syncro rings, brass shift fork pads and perhaps some cryo treatment.

Yes, its a PITA. Doing that along with an MGW Shifter and synthetic ATF fluid of your choice should give a MUCH better than stock shifting performance. FWIW, the transmission itself is STOUT. Ive beat the living shit out of mine and while the bearings and synchros are done, she hasnt blown up. Must have a hundred (edited) launches on this trans and still going.

Gear whine from the factory 3.73s (if equipped) is a thing. Doesnt matter how its setup when installed, they will whine after a launch or two on sticky tires and prep. Gets louder if (and when) you add an upper control arm and mount with rod bearings. FWIW I installed a set of FRPP 4.10s and while it does have a small amount of whine, its no where near as loud as 3.73s.

11-12 is a sweet spot I think. The 13-14 has a much higher floor than the 11-12, but the 11-12 has a higher ceiling. Cobra Jet crank, forged Mahle pistons, Ford GT heads and the strongest 5.4/5.8 block made by SVT make the 11-12 5.4L the real winner if you ask me. Rods suck, but a good set of forged or billet rods solve that issue.

The PTWA cylinder liners are pretty stout, but if you plan on going hard core and going full build, you'll want to sleeve it. Stick with the 5.4 displacement IMO.

Are the synchros really an issue though? I think they get eaten because people rip/force through the lockouts.
Also power shifting through wheel spin will kill them.
People told me my trans was toast and synchros bad because I had lockout.
I simply fixed the problem causing lockout and shifts fine now. And an MGW most certainly was not the fix. If anything made the problem worse.
I don’t buy the comments about synchros being a real problem in these.

Ive got about 100+ launches on my car. half on prep, half on "prep". 1-2 was a shit show nearly 50% through multiple iterations of fluid and shifter. Im not a pro drag racer, but I learned how to drive on a stick. I have driven other stick cars flat out and never had near the same amount of issue as my TR6060 does. That includes my former 2014 Mustang GT with MT82 and factory clutch/shifter.

Even Camaros and Challengers with trans-mounted shifter TR6060s have this issue, though the problem is much less pronounced. Probably since most of these cars are not boosted.

FWIW, my experience improved with an MGW and synth fluid. Then it fell off and was improved with a WOT Box and then fell off. Indication to me that something is wearing and that is the syncro rings.

Hopefully sometime this winter Ill have my trans pulled and sent off to my Tremec dealer for a rebuild. Ill certainly report back findings when its done.

I wouldnt be in a rush to send the trans out. Are you only getting lockouts, or do you get a grind?
Sycro's grind when they are done and at all RPM's. Not just WOT full flat out lockouts. While I am not a fan of the 6060 yet and fight with it myself, I hate when people quote synros all the time without looking at all the data.

That being said, I have not gotten any lockout since adding my CHE K member brace and TQ limiters and adjusting the trans angle along with securing it to keep it from moving under hard load. Also I added an adjustable UCA and aligned my entire drivetrain.
I can assure you the issues have started when I added the MGW. The MGW secures the shifter to the body, while the trans isnt braced anywhere else. The motor twists under load and pulls the trans with it. IE: Changing the gate location per se and locking out gears when under hard load.

That I didn't stop modding it sooner lol. Wish I would have kept it a street car. I went way to far with the car to where most people would hate but I love racing the car, pushing it harder and harder. Unfortunately, I keep finding weak links in my set up lol.

Mine's about as street as they come. No aftermarket go-fast parts, stock wheels, stock ride height. Heck, the most expensive things has been tires over the course of 53,xxx miles... And I still love the car. Dents, scratches, and swirls.

I live near and know a very reputable tuner and could almost, literally, push my car there. I have a smaller pulley, idler, and X3 in my garage. I just have no desire to put the extra money into it when a 550HP car sits in 465 rush hour the same as a 650HP one.

Now, my 3.5Ecoboost 150... I wouldn't mind a few extra pounds of torque...
