19" Wheels Taboo On The New Edge? Maybe Not....

For a long time 19" wheels have been taboo on the New Edge/SN95 platform. In large part this was due to a lack of available wheels with proper offsets, and those that did fit were heavy. Having spent some time building Mustang specific setups at Signature Wheel I wanted to give one of my favorite platforms a try. I have long missed my Terminator, and wanted to perfect some fitments.

Owning the GT350 has shown me how to manage tire height and overall diameters to maximize wheel sizing. A 18" wheel with a 35 series tire has the same overall diameter of a 19" wheel with a 30 series tire. Tire technology has also come a long way over the years. Ride quality and performance aren't necessarily sacrificed with smaller sidewalls. As many OEM's are moving away from 18" wheels on performance cars due to larger brake packages, this also means tire manufacturers have discontinued many of the 18" tire sizes I used to love.

So I propose to you the future. The Signature Wheel SV301S built in a 19x10.5 rear setup. That flush fitment we all love, wrapped in a 305/30/19 tire. Deep rear concave and that squatty rear stance without any rubbing. Gloss black lip and face with blue hardware. I bolted these onto a buddies Mach 1 for testing and I am in love. The car is lowered on coil overs.

Always pushing boundaries, so let me now what you think.

The rim itself looks great, but mixed seeing on the SN95. I like the flushness with the upper lip of the car. Looking from the front to the back at a side angle looks OK....lot of tire.
The view from the back end does not appeal to me at all. The way the rear bumper curves inward leaves 50% of the tire exposed at the bottom of the bumper. This makes the tire look massive and overbearing . I think if the fenders were flared ( like a wider body) may look better. The rotors now look itty-bitty.

Just my opinion!

Looks great. I had 19” True Forged wheels on a 10th Anniversary Cobra back in 2011 with H&R springs. I thought it looked great but on here it was mixed. Hope to see more as I think they look perfect and modern.

overall looks good but I still think the 19" is too big on these cars.

Are you all planning to start running any 18" wheels for new edge cars?

I think 19's all around have to have the perfect stance/tire/offset to work

but looking at your setup, I wonder if an 18 front 19 rear might be best of both worlds...? Kind of liking that even though you are mixed on the wheels

Black is a color that makes things appear smaller than they really are. That same wheel in silver, gumetal, polished, chrome etc. would look quite off to me. Having said that, even in black they still look just a bit too large.

As far as tires with shorter sidewalls go, with this chassis they most certainly do have a negative effect on ride quality. I barely made it off the tire shop's property before noticing this when I went from 17s to 18s.

If you need a piece of the fox chassis market, I would focus on doing 17s and 18s. Mostly 18s.

this occurred to me later on as well, if that wheel was a lighter color it would look a lot bigger and the short sidewall would stand out as well. I just dont think a short sidewall looks good on this platform

Like the wheel design and I think a 19" fits well. Not much meat for the tire, but if you plan on having the car as a cruiser I think it would be just fine

This setup actually looks about as good as I've seen 19's on these...still a little big IMO. I agree with this ↓

Just my opinion:

The diameter of the rim/tire looks great but the offset of the wheel makes them an odd fit. If the wheel was set more to the inside I think it would look better.

Agree - not convinced they don't rub, maybe not in the driveway but drive around at normal speeds, hitting a few dips in the road allowing the suspension to travel, then tell me no rubbing. I also think tucking in another 1" will look better

Love it. Perfect stance with the wide 19's and an aggressive offset. The blue hardware is a nice touch. I love what Signature is doing these days.

!9's on a new edge is tough as there isn't room on the inside of the inner fender area front or rear for that big of a wheel or tire combo without rubbing. I know that moving them in more would help however there may not be room to do that. God luck I hope they won't rub or cut the tire.
